I like Hal, but he is quite bland. I think this one is going to fail
like Fantastic Four... ho-hum set up and a big boring battle at the
end.

The setting may win it points, but that alone isn't a big sell for me.

It's going to work or collapse, I think.

I don't mind that so much... The X-Men films were ham-stringed I think
by having to have such a small cast to work... so many good characters
missed out... using characters that may not have got a run in the main
series is a good idea... not that they've nec made good picks, but the
idea is sound.

I always thought that it should have been:
X-Men (as filmed)
Wolverine (him trying to discover his past... so some of what we saw
in X2)
X-Men 2 - with Gambit instead of Wolverine (who is, as said, "away")

Sure, lower box-office for X-Men but better films.

Yeah, better character picks were needed.

It's not coming out this summer, so it's not mentioned on a list of
films coming out this summer.

Too big a potential cast. See X-Men discussion, plus the expense of
setting it in the future.

Anything with Darkseid will cost more money, too, and risk looking
stupid.

I really don't think Wolverine is the huge pull they seem to think he
is...I think an X-Men franchise that was more of an ensemble and
included Wolverine but didn't center on him (as all three X-Men films
did) could still do just as well, if not better...I know there are
even Wolverine fans that were annoyed at how the rest of the X-Men got
the shaft in those movies.

It would have required a franchise reboot...which wouldn't bother me
in the slightest...that said, if they had to continue with the current
franchise, they could have at least gone with the group of kids
rescued by Prof. X in the Wolverine flick...then we would have had at
least one more of the originals...and one that has been totally
screwed over by the current franchise at that.

I'm wondering if Red Skull is going to work... people are right about
"realism" in the WWII film and Red Skull will be massively borderline.

Part of it will be Magneto leaving the leadership of the X-Men and
starting his own group. Whether that makes him "the villain" is
another storyline. They keep mentioning the Cuban Missile Crisis,
too.

The Amazing Spider-man
Antman
Black Cat
Fury
Hellboy 3
Fantastic 4 1
Wolverine 2
Preacher
Jumper 2

Indeed! Those I did not mention.
The question was 'Which Superhero *film* are you looking forward to ever
ever ever?'
Notice the singular.

BTW, which one of those that you listed here would you pick as the most

So still The Avengers or other options now it's open to any superhero
ever to be made in the future?

Too soon to tell, most are still in preproduction. There's more to go
on for the ones coming out this summer. Otherwise it's just
speculation.

Not 'ever', only the ones I'm really aware of.
And of the movies that I'm aware of being made (or are 'about to be made')
'The Avengers' seems to be the most interesting one. To me at least.
Because, mostly, of the name connected to it: Joss Whedon.

In the list you gave, only 'The Dark Knight Rises', 'The Amazing Spiderman'
and 'Red Sonja' ring a bell in the sense that I heard that they were being
made. I may have heard of some of the others, but probably forgot about
them.
Are they really doing a reboot of the Fantastic Four movie franchise? Again?

I gave mine already.
But if you mean only the ones listed by the OP, then my choice would be:
Green Lantern.
Amazingly enough, being mostly a Marvelite I should have said 'X-Men: First
Class', but the way the earlier movies went....
Below that, and therefore not 'the one film' would be Thor.

I would *love* to see a well-made (and well-written) flick/series that
featured characters ala Buzzsaw Girl, Spiral, Demona (from Gargoyles) and
Jenny (from My Life as a Teenage Robot) 'living their lives' and wasn't
afraid to embrace its twisted silliness. ^_^

Part of the appeal of shows like Freakazoid, Toonsylvania, Ruby Gloom and
(Growing up) Creepie is that they 'explore new avenues' - Toonsylvania,
in particular, was a series that managed to blend elements of the horror
genre with unabashed cartoon silliness and, despite a few missed
opportunities, this worked in its favor. Even the latter two examples
with their cute character designs and clever writing are proving
themselves to be more than just 'kid stuff'. ^_^

To drink in the surrealistic beauty of the human imagination (preferably
with out Stripperella's cornball nonsense) would be dream come true.

Still, one viewer's dream would be another viewer's nightmare. 9_9

Feel free to mention if such a film/series has already been made.

And thank you for reading.

Joss had made some good stuff and a lot of dross.

He wants to do a Superhero film too much.

He wanted to Wonder Woman but didn't like the TV series or the
comics? What? He was just wanted to do a comic film and didn't care
which. His "superpowered chicks" rep got him a foot in the door for
WW and he went with that.

He wrote a spec script for Batman about a serial killer. A serial
killer? An episode of a TV series or a comic book, but a big screen
film? Really? He just doesn't get it.

He wrote what is considered the worse line in The X-Men.

He does write light hearted team dynamics well. So the light moments
in The Avengers will be good. The rest... time will tell.

Maybe.

The Dark Knight Rises
Hate the name, don't know the comic book story they're using well
enough to comment. I don't like that they're talking third and final.

Superman 1
Once again "dark" is being thrown around too much.

Iron Man 3
Interesting that they're also talking of it as the end of a trilogy
trying to tie the previous villains together.

The Amazing Spider-man
Didn't like 3 but didn't think it needed a reboot. I don't like that
we only ever get beginnings with these things. That's why I figured
Superman Returns continuing the old series was a good idea badly
executed.

Antman
Like the director but the "Old Antman/New Antman" thing doesn't make
much sense to me.

Black Cat
Hot chick in leather spin-off. They *always* work.

Fury
SLJ's been good in cameos. A SHIELD film... may work... dunno

Hellboy 3
Not enough info yet.

Fantastic 4 1
The reboot is a good idea, but too soon to consider one, IMHO.

Wolverine 2
I'm a little over Wolverine films.

Preacher
Never going to get the money to make it right. It will either need to
me toned down or made cheap.

Jumper 2
The end of Jumper just threw ideas at the screen that it didn't follow
through on, requiring a sequel... but doesn't mean I'm willing to
watch one. The director talking about the GF getting powers and
jumping to other planets doesn't excite me.

Xerses
Seems like a weird idea.

Samson
Think this is an original idea. Those are OK, I guess. See when we
have more information.

The Golden Age
This one interests me. Is this one based on the book Busiek mentions
as an inspiration for AstroCity?

Red Sonja
Eh.

Highlander
Remaking a classic. It will do well. I'll hate it on spec.

Exactly. Much better to just stick to this year.

He has a small group of rabid fans. Not enough people to make Firefly
a success. Not enough people to make Serenity successful enough to
warrent a sequel. Not enough people to make Dollhouse a success.

I don't hate him. I think he's funny in person. I think he does
interesting dialogue. I just thing that he's George Lucas doing the
prequels. Too many fans (both in the community and that he works
with) convincing him that he can do no wrong and he's been convinced.

Too far ahead and they may never happen.

The mantra for comic book film reboots at the moment seems to be "It
worked for Incredible Hulk". Although not very well, I must say. And
Punisher is another counter-example.

But Superman and Fantastic Four are using it. Spider-man isn't, I
think, but it is rebooting too soon, IMHO.

True.

Not in a way that mocks the very point of the discussion.

The Dark Knight Rising

True, he seems to say only one for #!... still Sam said final for
Spider-man so they rebooted, which I'm not happy with. I can see that
happening here... like SM, the cast keeps saying "only with this
director"

Which makes sense in some ways, I guess.

Superman 1
> I never saw Superman as a dark hero. He is one of optimism.

Which is why I think that the word is being thrown around too much.

Iron Man 3
> Marketing gimmick perhaps?

I guess. Third films probably do a lot worse than 1 and 2, so the
recent (if you ignore Jedi) trick of "it's not a second sequel it's a
trilogy" thing makes some sense. Like the third issue guest-
appearence in comics.

Antman

Realistic. There were at least 5 Superman films that were proposed
but not made between Superman IV and Superman Returns. All manner of
comic book films suggested... X-Men: First Class now contains story
that would have been in X-Men Origin: Magneto which is no longer
planned, etc.

I've never liked the quickening FX at the end. Even on the 80s. I'd
replace those.

There are two conversations from Whedon's script in the final release. One
is an exchange between Cyclops and Wolverine, and the other an exchange
between Storm and Toad.

[the X-Men have discovered that a shapeshifter (Mystique) has been
impersonating them]
Cyclops: How do I know you're the real Logan?
Wolverine: You're a dick.
Cyclops: Right, Logan.

Storm: Do you know what happens to a toad that's hit by lightning?
Toad: What?
ZAP
Storm: The same as anything else hit by lightning.

The second is generally held in minimum high regard, primarily due to Halle
Berry's delivery of it.

Thank you. The first one I thought was humorous enough. The second
I'll have to agree was totally asinine Berry's delivery wasn't Academy
Award winning material.

I am a fan. But never claimed I read or saw everything.
Never saw Toystory for instance. And I have yet to see 'The Dollhouse'.
What I did see?
- Buffy (movie and series)
- Angel (series)
- Firefly (series plus Serenity)
- Alien 4
- Doctor Horrible

Read: Couple of his X-men comics and some of the Buffy ones.

Ah... That's it??
Wait.... A line in an X-Men movie?
Joss wrote for that? Which one?
Saw the first a long time ago, but I'm unaware he had anything to do with
that.

How could Preacher fail to be awful? The comic was great. Tho it sort
of wandered off the path in the later chapters. And dragging the focus
onto Cassidy around Book 8 (using the collection numbers), and jamming
him into the end.

I know he was a main character, but... Garth Ennis has a habit of
sticking lovable drunken rogueish Oirishmen into his books. I think
it's for the Americans, many of whom love all that Irish shite. "I'm
Irish myself, y'know. My great-great-grandfather came from" etc.

[Just an aside, but why are no Americans from America? The whole lot
of them seem to be foreigners. Everybody has a hyphen. Yet the
difference between any two of them, compared to an actual foreigner,
is negligible]

Anyway, yes. Ennis's habit of jamming Oirish Rogues into things. Apart
from that tho, the main story with Jesse and the Grail and Herr Starr
was great! It was also about 4x too long to fit into a film. They
could perhaps just do a couple of the early books. Leave off killing
JHVH till a sequel, and just have Jesse 'n' Tulip escaping to a
temporary freedom and safety at the end.

Actually would a film about a cowboy who wants to kill Jehovah go down
well in the Christian USA? I can only imagine the ending will change.
Jehovah will point out that his ways are mysterious and not for Man to
question, and Jesse will realise that he never thought of that before,
and agree. In the end Jesse and Tulip settle down as a minister and
his wife, in a nice little town somewhere, and have children. Jesse
will be reading the Bible one night to Jesse Jr, who will ask a
question about god. Jesse will answer, in a knowing tone, with a
twinkle in his eye, and we'll all laugh. Pull out to Ave Maria.

to read instructions, turn up on time and man the conveyor belts,
sorted." #

The people who were here before 1492 are a pretty small part of the
population, and usually refer to themselves by tribe, rather than as
Americans.

That said, those of us who think of ourselves as simply Americans
(usually because our heritage is such a mish-mosh that there's no one
thread worth picking out) generally don't say anything about it, so
you don't notice us.

You state the obvious. In "Irish-American" or "African-American" or
whatever, the important part is indeed "-American."

And, technically, they would be descended from immigrants too...just
much further back.

People (of all kinds) just need to chill out...the emphasis we place
on political correctness these days is obscene.

( number of great comics ) - ( number of great movie adaptations of
comics ) = your answer.

Political correctness exists to not insult people.

That's what I said.

Actually, Watchmen wasn't too bad. Perhaps being widely known as the
best comic ever put a sense of responsibility into the people making
it. Unlike V for Vendetta of course which was a bloody travesty.

Strangely, I've tried to watch Watchmen 3 times, and never made it to
the end. I read the book voraciously, and I've read it through a dozen
times. I think I've spotted just about every subtle connection that's
in there.

Watchmen film isn't too bad. It's very faithful. But I can't be
bothered watching it. Perhaps cos it's a story I know so well, there's
not much attraction in watching a slightly inferior version of it.

V for Vendetta I watched, spitting and going into rages in pretty much
every scene. "HOW could they do THIS to THAT!?!?". I was driven by
disgust and righteous anger all the way through.

One of the first annoyances is the anti-American rant by Richard
Littlejohn, or whatever the bloke on the telly's called. "He MUST be
evil if he says that!", think the audience. In the book, America
simply didn't exist.

"There's nothing like eating hay when you're faint," the White King remarked to Alice, as he munched away.
"I should think throwing cold water over you would be better," Alice suggested: "--or some sal-volatile."
"I didn't say there was nothing better," the King replied. "I said there was nothing like it."
Which Alice did not venture to deny.

But it only rises to the level it has because people are far too
sensitive and get bent out of shape over the slightest (often
imagined) thing.
