Last I episode I've started to watch is the disc with
The Castle of Fu Manchu from the XXIII collection and
the first episode of the third disc of the Columbia
Rarities, with Joe Besser. This is an embibulating
coincidence, as the Mst3k episode has a skit with a
"stink" bomb that turns it's victims into "stinky" of
the Abbot and Costello TV show, who was Joe Besser.
I have three DVD players connected to my TV, so often
I pause and switch between programs as incrementality
is the only way I can slog through some of the boring
movies I watch, and is a habit that carries over to
the good stuff too. The third DVD player has the
Lost Honeymooners, which is rarely boring, so I've
always got something watchable hooked up.

The mst3k episode seems like a real funny one, and
even the Besser short has it's moments, like showing
a merit award to fireman Stinky for something like
"bravely witnessing 230 fires and 70 false alarms".
The Andy Clyde shorts are the real gems from the
Rarities collection, which is actually unreleased
separately, so can only be bought as a complete
three stooges collection or by small dealers who
break up the set and sell the Rarities collection
separately, a move unauthorized by Sony, who
misconsider their customers. I hope more unreleased
Columbia shorts come out on DVD.

The first segment was better than what followed.
There's even an introduction/apology in the Extras
on the DVD by Frank explaining this movie veers on the
lower tiers of the MST3K portfolio, and explains the
standards needed to make a movie riffable, like
having some sort of plotline, rather than just random
stuff that happens.

You know, it strikes me --- and I'm a bit upset to realize
this --- that I don't remember the most recent episode of MST3K that
I've watched. It's been a couple of months since I've had the chance,
as I'd been working two jobs and then moving and then marrying and then
having my honeymoon. This weekend is almost the first time that I've
had a chance to take an hour and a half and just unwind with some truly
awful filmmaking, and I think I'm already a full DVD volume set behind
the most recent release. It's embarrassing.
