I'm sure many of you have tried to telnet to Andy's BBs

telnet://cottonwood.servebbs.com

and were faced with the "bug" AABBS software had in it, reading the
incoming baud rate correctly. Too, many times the BBs software would
not "auto-baud", to match the incoming call, and the user would be
presented with total garbage on his screen.

This seems even more prevailent, during telnet sessions, because of
the speed of todays computers. Andy has suggested tapping the return
key , as soon as you see the message "connecting" .... that works
"most of the time", but this solution , is by FAR, much better !!!!!
(at least for people who have a Dial-up connection to thier ISP, like
I do.)

After I got done with my brain farts.... it just kinda came to me.

Simply setup ANOTHER, dial up connection, to your ISP, and configure
the modem THAT connection will use, to 2400 bps. It won't matter if
you have only ONE modem, because you are only specifying the
"parameters" the new connection you created, will use.

This of course "assumes" your ISP allows connections at 2400 bps.
DON'T call your "support" line to ask them !!!, because they will
most likely tell you they can't connect at that speed.... that is
hogwash in most cases, and the truth is, they don't want a bunch of
low speed "amateurs, taking up bandwidth, when in reality, thier
routers and modems will simply connect to ANY speed, of the incoming
call, they can handel.

If this is not making sence, I'll try it this way...... you simply
connect to the internet at 2400 baud, by setting up "My (new)
Connections modem to 2400 baud max speed. From there on that port
(the modem) will only communicate at 2400 bps....... and will connect
to Andys BBs like magic.

I treid this several times today, with different Telnet programs, and
everything was hunky-dory

Rick

PS When your done calling Andy, simply dis-connect from your ISP,
and then use your "regular" connection to re-connect at a higer
speed..... Its real EZ !! I even put a new shortcut on my desktop to
the "slow speed" connect, and labeled it CWBBS

LOL, yea, but just from home... and seeing how Im hardly ever here,
and have hi-speed at work, its OK....... heck the only thing I do
here is read this group and play some poker online once in a while....
no need to spend 30 bux a month for that.

besides... My first modem was a 300 baud modem, so dial up is no big
deal to me, and 115.000 bps is "just" fine for reading text and
surfing these daze.....besides, Im too old to be in a hurry :-))

Thanks. It's not our choice, in case you are not aware that adsl is not
everywhere.
