Sampo's lineup for the new set:
http://www.mst3kinfo.com/?p=2466

Mystery Science Theater 3000 XV from Shout! Factory will include the following episodes:

102- THE ROBOT VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY
(with short: COMMANDO CODY AND THE RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON Pt. 1)
509- THE GIRL IN LOVER'S LANE
604- ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE
616- RACKET GIRLS (with short: ARE YOU READY FOR MARRIAGE?)

Plus extras, of course, and a side order of potato planks.

I think that the only one I've seen of this set is Racket Girls,
which I didn't care for, although the short and its attendant host
sketches were fantastic. And as it happens tomorrow is the anniversary
of the patenting of the rubber band. So we may not know where'd it go,
but we know where it's been, and that it should have washed.

(Y'know, just because it's a train movie, J&tB shouldn't do host segs

RvtAM at least has S1 goodness (and Devil Dogs!), but the others can be
safely "Well, at least SF got them out of their system" discarded,
raising the higher probability of good titles on the next.

Still, I'd rather have S6 Mike than the flood of S10 we've been getting
of late.

Again, so much for the "we don't want to show Season 1 because it wasn't our
best work".

Tom Carberry (#45505, and Adam West must be smiling (or is that smirking)?)

Meow! Just a little cranky 'cause nobody cleaned my litter box.

I'm guessing now that the S1 bottle has been opened, they feel some
completist obligation toward Commando Cody...
Which could be a faint hope for those still waiting for "Robot Holocaust".

I disagree. I think Jim and what's left of BBI is desperate for $. But I
guess I'm just a cynic.

Tom Carberry (#45505, and would someone please change my litter box! :)

Well, that too, but was referring to Shout's anal-retentiveness for
making sure they didn't begrudge the audience a Cody chapter...
Which might also leave hopes for Robot Monster, Slime People, Project
Moonbase, and...Corpse Vanishes. -_-

Season one episodes have been released before; it's the KTMA season that
we are unlikely to see on DVD.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see the entire Season One library released.
My comment was in reference to Turkey Week back in (was it 1994?) when CC
negotiated with BBI to run more episodes of Season One. I can still hear
Penn's voiceover for the episodes describing Josh (J. Elvis) as a "fake
Frank". The excuse given for no more than four being run was that they
didn't want people to see their first season because it wasn't their best
work. I think that was a crock, then.

Well, IMO the quality level *is* lower, generally, in season 1, though
it's still quite good and fun. But the "real" reason, which they talked
about later, was that the show in season 1 was just too different from
the then-current show, and at that time they were still trying establish
their then-current look and feel and they felt casual audiences would be
"confused." I think they worried too much about it, but I think their
concern was genuine.

Although that was also back when Rhino had to sell "The Crawling Hand"
as a solo title, and had to worry about it being taken in or out of
context with the bigger-selling Joel titles--
Years after Turkey Week, Shouting Rhino can now give us a whole
historical cross-section of various incarnations of the series--And slip
a S1 into the mix as a C-feature, and only portray it as just *part* of
the Elvis-era/CC-era/Mike-era/Subplot-era/Corbett-era confusion of
styles, for variety's sake.

....Which, to answer one poster, is one good REASON for boxsets. :)

Derek Janssen (who never got around to buying "Red Zone Cuba" as a solo
disk, but might've watched it in a box)

Both do, really, feel like fair concerns. If you've been getting
into the show from the finely-tuned, high-paced, pitch-perfect shows like
that giddy high patch around The Magic Voyage of Sinbad, going to season
one where it feels much more strongly like they're improvising and working
out just how the show ought to work is disconcerting. It's kind of like
how the DVDs for the 90-minute SCTVs were released ahead of any half-hour
shows; not that there's anything wrong with the half-hour SCTV shows, but
they were doing a whole lot better before too long.

Still, I'm glad to get much better looks at the young J Elvis
Weinstein, who was, well, working at the level MST3K would reach when
it was still getting up to speed.

J. Elvis still played Dr. Erhardt like a character you *would* see on
local stations or homemade 80's cable (hey, sue us, we hadn't heard of
Frank yet!), and Weinstein-Servo's cool/bored improv non-sequitirs don't
sound like they would've ever found the character focus with the more
polished scripted material that came later...

But that doesn't mean that the S1 "Robot" Trilogy wasn't prime MSTie
material in its own riff-right, or that "Untamed Youth" or "Moon Zero
Two" never happened. :)
