yesterday-- #211--First Spaceship on Venus, #706--Laserblast, and
#1004--Future War. While the movies are clean and the sound good, I was
especially impressed with the extras. On two of the DVDs, (I think it was
211 and 706) were parts 1 and 2 of cast interviews (very recently done)
about the origin of the show. Joel, J. Elvis (Josh), Trace, Frank, Kevin,
and Jim Mallon talk at length about the origin of the show (the KTMA-23
days) and the move to Comedy Channel. Both parts are about 20+ minutes
long. On #1004 was a 37 minute panel discussion with the entire cast at a
2008 Convention, moderated by comedian Patton Oswalt. The cast had to share
microphones and it was a little hard to understand them.

I hear you. Shout Factory is doing an excellent job. And I really
like their covers for the movies. The retro poster art for each
episode--think of the Criterion release of Monsters and Madmen for a
good comparison--is truly brilliant. I hope they continue that and
the releases.

Only got back from vacation and cracked open the box tonight (Anyone
want the Crow thingy, as I'll only be saving the tin for old home-burned
disks?)--
Seems like the did a good job, though: The serialized "History of
MST3K" seems to be well done, and the fact that it's spread out over the
three disks hopefully means SF! wasn't planning singles after all.
(And although Joel was still recognizable in 2008, I could only tell
which one was still Trace from the voice. 0_0 )

Still, don't think a chapter menu would've been *too* much of a luxury
to ask for...
Didn't seem too hard to do, back in those Rhino days.

Do they put chapter stops in? That would solve that issue right
there. And honestly, I can't fault Shout Factory too much here.
They're doing a pretty good job putting out some fairly rare
episodes. I wonder what episodes they have planned next.

There're chapter *stops*, just no cleverly-titled chapter menus for us
to find them, for those who only like their episodes in MST3k Hour chunks...

I give the Real Rhino execs credit for knowing the Comedy Central
episodes from the Sci-Fi Channel ones--
Although having Werewolf AND Future War on the same set is still
condition-orange until the next announcements come out.

Yes, Trace has gained a little weight, Joel has trimmed his hair short and
has receeded a bit (but then who hasn't?), and Frank looked bad.

Tom Carberry (#45505, and thanks for the update on part 3 of the history, I
haven't gotten Werewolf yet).

And I can't be the only one listening to the "Laserblast" menu music and
thinking "Why are they playing the Robot Holocaust theme?"

I got Werewolf over the weekend. I liked the 3rd and final part of the cast
interviews. That was a nice extra.

I got mine from Borders. It looked like I was going to get
the 20 percent release-week discount, but they had a stack of 25-percent
off-one-item coupons the cashier used instead. Which is good for me,
of course, although it raises the question of why have the release-week
discount in the first place.

With luck, I might watch them all this year.
