I have made several previous postings about Something Weird, the
website/video on demand entity that offers movies, short subjects, and
other items of the type that appeal to MSTies.
This month as part of the video division, they are offering
several new categories of programming--Weird U, Ad Nauseum and Naughty
Bits. They take the films, re-edit, add new narration and dialogue to
create mock commercials, psuedo-educational films, and the like.
A talking car from a 1950's traffic safety short now has a voice and
attitude like Chris Rock (stand up version, not "Everybody Hates
Chris"). Dating advice offered in a black & white piece called "Going
Steady" is now been revised as "F&@*ing Steady", with beeps placed
over the original soundtrack. Advertisements for toy weapons become a
military "recruiting" flim.
I haven't decided if I really like these...they do seem to come
across with lots of 'tude for the too-cool 20somethings. But haven't
we all been spoiled by the standards the Brains set?
