Are there more terrifying words in the world of pop culture
than ``the show is being updated to appeal to modern kids''?

Warner Bros Brings Back Banana Splits

By: Ryan Ball
Over hill and highway the Banana buggies come again.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products is re-launching the classic '60s
Hanna-Barbara TV property The Banana Splits, which had costumed
characters Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky introducing
cartoons such as The Three Musketeers and the live-action
adventure serial Danger Island. The Banana Splits returns on
Tuesday, Sept. 2 with all-new comedy shorts and music videos on
Cartoon Network and Boomerang. The multi-platform revival will
also include a new website, DVDs, live entertainment and music
CDs.

And yet we remain decades away from The Skate Birds revival.

Enough with the anal-retentive completism, Warner, *all we said* was
that we wanted the New Adventures of Huck Finn boxset!

I wasn't sure, actually, and trusted the article. Wikipedia
claims at the moment I looked it up that he was 'Snorky' in the show
segments, and 'Snork' in the theme song, for reasons that are probably
obscured by time although I'll bet it amounted to they forgot what
they used the first time when it came to writing whatever came
second.

It also claims that Richard Donner, later of fame for the
Superman movie parts that everyone copies, including for the later
Superman movies, directed the live-action stuff for the first season,
which surprised me.

Snork(y) didn't talk so we can't get his take on what his (her?) name
is. Ah my misspent youth. I actually won a radio call in contest
that asked if anyone could name the four Banana Splits. I won a
Brownsville Station Album, Kings of the Party. The second album of a
one hit wonder.

Maybe they just *had* to make it rhyme with "cork". He would have
been called "SNORKANGELOU" if they'd wanted it to rhyme with "Maya
Angelou"!
