That's an odd one to riff, I would think.

I know they have some reason to want to riff DVDs that people might
already own, but I thought this was a pretty enjoyable movie. And I
can't imagine what they could add by talking over it.

The perfect rifftraxes, IMO, were the Star Wars prequels, since even
those who feel obligated to buy them have to concede that there's
plenty of riffable material in there.

I agree. I thought Ocean's Eleven was good. I just couldn't see ( or
hear )
Mike Nelson doing that. I usually just stick to Mst3k and the old
cheesy movies.

Maybe he'll make it work. But it seems that a lot of the best riffs
come when the riffers' point of view is at odds with the filmmakers'
point of view.

Think of Joel's comment toward the very end of Mitchell: "They've only
got a few more minutes to make him likable. Think they can do it?"

I can't picture an equivalent to that in "Ocean's 11." Will we hear
Bill Corbett saying "See? You can tell he's cool 'cause he wears
sunglasses indoors," or something like that.

Another source of humor is when our guys notice some cultural
reference that the original filmmakers didn't. I remember in a Gamera
movie, there was a character who said, a couple times, "Boy!" or even
once "Boy! Boy!" and each time Tom would sing "Boy, boy, crazy boy."

But I don't think Soderbergh accidentally left in any "Boy! Boy!" type
lines for our characters to complete.

When someone sees it, maybe they can give us the scoop on it.

Well, your right. You can't know if It'll be good or not just by the
movie there riffing.
These guys are trained professionals when it comes to riffing.
I remember in industructable man, one of the ladies didn't blink for a
very long time.
Before you knew it, Joel, Crow, and Tom Servo were shouting, BLINK!
BLINK!
I would have never even that if they didn't shout that.
I'm sure It"ll be funny, now that I think of it.

Is it the newer one, or the old Rat Pack one?

(Hmmm, time to pick up a new rat pack. I'm just about out! ;-))

P.S. Did you see that Martha Stewart, who's apparently a fan of MST3K
(who knew?) is sponsoring a show MSTing her old show? (<http://
www.nytimes.com/2008/08/11/business/media/11martha.html>) The mind
boggles!

(I hope you're being silly with your choice of the term "trained
professionals," but I know what you mean :-)

That's awesome!

I hear ya. They're great when they find something that's not exactly
there until they point it out. Like replying to that guy saying "Boy!
Boy!" in the Gamera movie.

(That said, I still wonder if Soderbergh is inattentive enough to let
something that odd slip through without doing it deliberately.

I think you're right. There will definitely be some good jokes. If I
actually owned Ocean's 11, I'd do the Rifftrax in a heartbeat.

I love the scene where they outline breaking into the Desilu
studios.

Not only does the mind boggle, but it then places the boggled
mind in a lovely wicker basket on a mesh of plastic grass left over
from Easter, and place it on the half-wall for the kitchen where it
makes a lovely decoration and provides a visual distraction so people
won't notice you always keep the car keys and cell phone plugged in
there.

What gets me is the description of Martha Stewart watching the
show while she had insomnia one night. It's a selection of celebrity
and TV show that I wouldn't think to mix up. (I'd have guessed she was
a fan of BBC America's _How Unimaginably Filthy Can Britons Possibly
Get?_ instead.) It's like hearing Isaac Asimov was a fan of _Laverne
and Shirley_.

Hey, wasn't that MAUDLIN'S 11 from SCTV? ;-) Fun stuff! (YMMV)

Somehow I'm thinking this is in a branch of that kitchen with ALL-TOO-
MANY POTHOLDERS in "Touch of Satan". It would explain so much! ;-)

Someday it will be revealed that, like Kevin Bacon, everyone of note
in this generation was a fan of MST3K. Not to say that Kevin Bacon
was a fan... BUT IT WOULDN'T SURPRISE ME!

I think, rather that it's Laverne and Shirley being fans of Isaac
Asimov! I just wonder if they ever broke any of the Laws of Robotics
during their various hijinks with or without Lenny and Squiggy!

-Doug Elrod (dre1@cornell.edu)
guessing that Nostradamus not only *PREDICTED* MST3K, but he was
also... A FAN! :-)

I hated Ocean's 11, but they've riffed good movies before (see:
Raiders of the Lost Ark)

You hated Ocean's 11? The remake?

I was very disappointed with the original, but that's because I've
heard it talked up for years.

I would think that anyone who actually chose to see the remake would
find that it delivered pretty good entertainment, no?

As for Raiders, maybe I should check it out. But I stand by my theory
that most riffs work best when our riffers are noticing something that
the original filmmakers didn't. That said, I can't imagine that
there's a lot in the original Raiders that Steven Spielberg, George
Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan didn't notice and/or intend.

Hmm, okay, I just watched a scene:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KxlUkRlRNo

I guess they've found plenty to comment about without actually
pointing out "flaws" in the movie. So, fair enough. It looks like
they can do a good movie, and still get some laughs out of it :-)
