So it's been awhile since I've watched any of my old MST3K VHS tapes,
the ones I so meticulously acquired over the years. They've been in
storage now for ... oh, probably since the show was canceled, and now
they're just sitting there, whimpering and mocking me and calling me
things I can't repeat here. Is there any value to these old tapes, now
that I can get better quality copies on DVD?? Most of them are 2nd,
3rd, or 4th generation copies (except the last 3 seasons -- they were
recorded on nice HiFi tapes).

If I throw them on eBay, will anyone want them? Or should I just haul
them off to the dump?

Try this to enhance the likelihood of a sale: put them in the trunk of
your Yugo, include all your 8-track Partridge Family tapes and
polyester leisure suits, and offer the whole pile for auction on eBay
with the starting bid at $7. You could sweeten the catch by offering
a weekend Eckancar seminar if the bids go over $15.

Yeah, I've got dozens of these myself. I love the old shows, but DVD
and HD have ruined old video for me.

I'd buy them, tho not much. I used to put 3 MST3K eps per tape.

Given that some episodes may take a long time to come to DVD (if
ever), I'll bet there will always be a market for this kind of thing
on eBay (or on eBay's descendants in the centuries to come). There
could be whole new generations of people/extraterrestrials just
discovering the show, who would be hungry for any episodes they can
get. The dump can get by with episodes of much less worthy series ;-)

There's online web video sources with many episodes, although
they're almost invariably missing the one I want to see right now, so
videotapes make for a much more convenient service.

But think of future generations! Shouldn't Wall-E have the
chance to understand jokes about Trumpy?

And I think videotapes make a comeback in the post-apocalyptic future,
too, don't they? Well, if it's not *too* far off, I suppose ;-)

Or VICE-VERSA! Trumpy can do *magic* things!

-Doug Elrod (dre1@cornell.edu) ;-)
thinking how SURREAL it would be for MST3K to appear on a TELETUBBY!
