'ello all,

After a looooooooong hiatus, Wang has decided to start up Retro Gaming
Addict again! Doing things a bit differently than last time, he has
decided to start using ebay's "Buy it Now or Best Offer" format. This
means that virtually every item will be in non-auction format...and now,
if you don't like the price, just offer up another!

I've been sent in to the depths of his garage and storage rooms to
excavate the first batch of items we'll be listing...it was quite a
trip. Though I haven't even remotely gotten it all up, there are around
30+ items available right now(there were around 40 earlier this week,
but they've been going pretty quick)...and more are coming when I get
back on Monday.

Up and running are a nice selection of complete games from the N64,
SNES, Genesis and Dreamcast. He's also got a crapload of *Brand New*
Halo 2: LE games for those trying to get in on Bungie's Halo Wake being
held next month(at the end of Xbox Live 1.0). To go with all the games,
he's also got some hardware...from a boxed Platinum GameBoy SP to a, get
ready for it, Goldstar 3DO and more. Rounding it all out are some
oddities like a few games for the CDi, a Master System Control Stick and
a Saturn NetLink(to name a few).

More is coming...he's loaded me up with an unbelievable amount of games
for the SNES, NES, GameBoy and Game Gear(and some hardware to go with
it), it just takes some time for me to test, clean and list everything.

Though the site is still pretty sparse, I am going to try to get to that
next week as well. With this new selling format, Wang is playing with
some ideas for the site to add to it. We'll keep you posted.

As always, if you have any questions about an item, shipping or
whatever...just shoot us a message on ebay, here on the forums or via
email(on the site).

Wish me luck, I'm heading back in to the depths of the Lost Temple of
Gaming Goodness...;)

Can we work out some kind of deal on that DOOM 64 box? I'll trade you
the PS2 Gauntlet Dark Legacy game (complete and near mint) for it ;)

I just went and bought it off of you. I owe you for past favors.
Anyway, I want that damn box. That's a toughie ;)

Don't bother sending the game or the manual when you ship. I just
want the box.

I hadn't heard about that. Very interesting. Some seem convinced
that MS is going to sell them xbox 360s for $50 (refurbished?)
Others seemed concerned that they might end up losing online content
like maps and music and whatnot. Others argued that the games can
still be played online using third-party servers.

MS always seems to be embroiled in some type of controversy :)

Oh, I'm sorry about that...I was running around like a wild man getting
everything shipped out that had sold over night, then I had to leave the
house(heading {slightly}out of town for the weekend) so I didn't get
back to usenet until this morning. I'll talk to Wang, I'm sure he'll cut
you a deal for just the box or whatnot, then we can shoot you a refund
for the rest. I'll ask him next time I catch him(most likely Monday).

Well, here's the official line:

If you're a hardcore Xbox Live player, on the original system(or play OG
games on either hardware) MS is going to extend an offer to give you
400MS point and 3 months of Live Gold. Once the servers are shut off on
the 15th, any and *all* DLC for original Xbox titles is *gone*. That's
why I am initiating the "Xbox Live Preservation Project":

http://s4.zetaboards.com/Whip_Ass_Gaming/topic/7858173/1/

Games that allow for System Link will still be playable via "tunneling"
software...games that don't have system link are just dead.

It's absolutely pathetic and MS's part, and just another showing of how
much they hated the original Xbox. They want it *completely* out of
people's minds. First they killed development of all last gen titles so
developers would just move them to the 360's launch...but that wasn't
enough, people were still playing their original Xbox. Now they are
going to take online away from it, ensuring its death. It sucks ass.
There is less than no reason for them to cut the servers on any of that
shit. They're trying to get people to believe it's so that they can go
forward with Xbox Live 3.0(or whatever). Yeah-fucking-right.

I assume OG stands for "Online Gaming"?
And DLC stands for Downloadable Content?

There's "talk" that it has something to do with various services like
NetFlix and other miscellaneous nonsense that has nothing to do with
gaming :)

Is it possible that they just want to sell new versions of popular
games like Halo 1 and Halo 2 all over again? The new versions would,
of course, require xbox 3.

I'm also thinking that the recent BIG price drops on the original xbox
might have created a lot of new traffic on xbox live. Once they get
so cheap, people who didn't buy them before buy them. Used Gamecubes
were apparently selling pretty well at the end there. A lot of people
(me, for example) bought GameCubes in large part because of Zelda:
Twilight Princess. And some people who had previously got rid of
their gamecubes went out and bought them again.

Maybe you should of took me up on my offer to softmod a box for you.
It's not too late :)

Apparently it stands for "Original"...I don't get it either, but that's
what *everyone* does.

Yeah, that's it.

Could be...one thing they say, and this is how you can tell the entire
thing is utter bullshit, is that once they do this you'll be able to now
add more than 100 friends to your Friend's List. Yeah...I can see how
keeping these old-ass games online could hinder something like
that...(complete bullshit)

> Is it possible that they just want to sell new versions of popular

I doubt it. What kills me is that they'll probably still charge the same
amounts for these games on their Downloadable service...even though they
are neutering them so badly. Not to mention, if you buy them via the 360
service, you *cannot* use the tunneling services(as far as I know),
further fucking the player.

> I'm also thinking that the recent BIG price drops on the original xbox
> might have created a lot of new traffic on xbox live.

Well, that and the increased Backwards Compatibility. Now that they've
pretty much finished, the final total is 478 titles. Not too bad. Back
before I had a 360, I was seeing a big surge in online players every
time a new update for the BC list was put out.

The reason the GC is so cheap is because the Wii features full
BC...except for online play(which few GC games had anyway), so there's
less than no reason to own a GC if you own a Wii. Well, I take that
back, there is the GBA Player...

Still, with the Wii selling like hotcakes, that's 300k new Wii owners
every month...300k Wii owners who are thinking of, or already have
traded in their GCs. I see them all the time for about $15. There's this
purple one over at a local Thrift Store, has a controller and all
cables...even has a game in the system...it's $15.99. I keep wanting to
pick it up, just for shits and giggles...but as the girlfriend has a
Wii, I just can't see the point(I can use my laptop or HTPC for GB/C/A
gameplay on a TV). I think a lot of people are like that. Similarly,
this is why you can find PSX units *everywhere*, and dirt cheap.

Well, I still take my original Xbox online, which is why I have never
modded it. Thing is, after April 15th there is *less than no reason* to
not own a modded Xbox...and I fully plan on modding mine once the date
has passed. I don't think I'll add a new HDD or anything like that, but
being able to play burned ISOs will definitely help with my "Big,

I know that it's been handled (somewhat haphazardly) in emulation, but the
big reason to have two Gamecubes is so that you can play the GBA-linked
Gamecube games with two TVs. One Gamecube runs Final Fantasy Crystal
Chronicles, while another (or four) with the GBA player have the link
cable running to the first Gamecube's controller ports. This is good for
Pac Man Vs. and Zelda Four Swords too. It's gloriously absurd to see it
all running at once.

Yeah, I guess so...if I were more of a fan of the GC I could see
it...I'm just sort of a casual GC sorta guy. Playing GC titles on the
Wii, with a GC controller seems to do alright for me. Would love to see
GC Twilight Princess at some point...

It's interesting to me that the 360 fanboys seem to have the attitude
that there isn't any reason to be using the original machine anyway.
A lot of them seem genuinely surprised to hear that people are still
doing xbox live using the original machine.

I'm sure we can find good uses for non-modded machines after the
15th. We can build our own pyramid out of them. It'd be heavier than
a real pyramid :D

Well, it's important to note that research has found that something like
70% of all 360 owners never owned an original Xbox. So, this means that
they're all ex-PS2 shitheads who use to sit there and attack us for
owning an Xbox...and then when their God and Master let them down with
the PS3, they jumped ship and now own 360s. What's amusing is that they
probably get the same shit from the Sony diehards who sit there and
attack them for still playing their PS2s when the PS3 is out...

That's true! What needs to happen, and the opposite will probably end up
occurring, are prices for mod chips to drop through the floor. Thing is,
with everyone modding, they'll probably skyrocket. Thing is, since the
OG Xbox won't even connect to Live after the 15th, we don't need the
newest chips anymore...the first gens should handle the mod perfectly.
Anyway, if we could all get some chips we could all hard mod our units,
pop in bigger HDDs, etc. Would be really nice. A couple of buddies of
mine have hard modded units, both with 300 or 500GB HDDs in them...it's
fucking awesome!

I guess. I think you can really get by without a big drive depending
on what you are trying to do. It isn't like it's difficult to
transfer files back and forth from your computer to the xbox. Anyway,
ROMs are generally small :)

I'd be more willing to do a hard mod if it allowed me to replace the
horrid DVD-ROM drive with a better one. It's "kind" of possible with
a softmod, but you can't play any xbox games using an unofficial
drive. The drives that came with xboxes are just horrible. I've
never seen worse quality drives in my life. Not to mention how old
they are getting. Most of mine only work sporadically. And they
can't read CD-Rs.

Well, it's usually because people want *every* emulator and *every* rom
available on the HDD at once, not to mention multiple ISO images for
Xbox games. Both of my buddies do this...and there's just no way you
could do it with the original 10 or 12GB drive. My only real issue with
switching out the original HDD is that I'd loose all my game saves(for a
second time) and patches/DLC from online titles(which you can't get back
off Live, though I have heard that the mod community has figured out a
way of distributing it, so that's encouraging). I guess if I could find
a way to keep *all* of my stuff from the original HDD, I would upgrade
the HDD(300GB+ drives are cheap).

It all depends on the model you have. If you have the first gen Thomson,
you're fucked...no way around. If you've got a Philips(which I had
before the HDD in that Xbox died), you're in good shape. If you've got a
Samsung or the rumoured last-gen Thomson, you're doing the best you can
possibly do.

http://www.freewebs.com/xboxdrives/

The Thomson has issues with *everything*. The Philips will read all CD-R
and *most* DVD-R media. The Samsung has no issues with anything. Not
sure on the last-gen Thomson...I've only really seen it briefly, and
have not read anything on its supposed performance.

Alright boys and...well, boys, time for another update!

Thai has cracked the whip and I have managed to get a whopping *80*
items listed for you guys this time around! What a selection it is,
too...here we go:

We've got boxed N64, Super Nintendo, GameBoy, Dreamcast, Saturn, Game
Gear and Playstation units waiting for you. I finally managed to come
upon one of Thai's boxes of...well, boxes, so now we've got boxed N64
and SNES games, along with with a lot of cart-only stuff. We've got
collections like 17 Game Gear games, the SNES Cartoon Pack, N64
Sports, the Donkey Kong, Mario and Zelda Trilogies.

Be sure to check out the oddities like a TMNT Jamma board, TurboGrafx
Carrying Case, Metal Gear Solid Big Box Version and more. We still
have Halo 2: LE, new and sealed, for those looking to get in on the
Bungie Halo Wake coming up next month on the 15th.

Though I've still yet to get back to working on the RGA site, I have
managed to find a way for people to keep up with RGA's auctions via
Twitter. We post every auction to Twitter, immediately after it's
listed so you'll never miss a listing!

All of this, and more can be found by visiting our website, our
Twitter account or our ebay account itself.

Alright ya'll, it's "Lot Week" at RGA. All week long Thai has been
putting together some tasty system lots...then cracking the whip and
making me list them all! Here's what we've got:

1. Atari 2600 Lot with 109 games - I was with Thai when he picked this
up. In incredible condition, has some rare games in there(Sword Quest,
etc) but the best thing about it: The Atari Force comics!

2. Sega Master System with box and 8 games - Good stuff, and in really
good condition.

3. Commodore 64 and 50+ games - I remember seeing this in one of the
rooms in Thai's house, I guess he actually decided to sell it! Insane!

4. Sega Genesis/CD Lot with 54 Boxed games - Most complete too!

5. Sega Genesis/CD Lot with 30(mixed) games - Has the box for the SCD2
unit.

6. TurbGrafx 16 with 4 controllers and 17 games - Comes with the
TurboTap.

7. Jaguar with CD and 16 games - Comes with that "Memory Track" cart
and even some complete titles!

8. Sega Genesis/CD/32X with 34 games - Lots of complete 32X games in
this one!

9. Super Nintendo system with 55 games - Man, the sheer amount of
titles!

Past that we've got quite a bit of immaculate(and complete) PSX stock,
some PC titles and other wild stuff.

We've started up a Twitter account, to which we post all listings
immediately on...as well as a YouTube account to show off some of the
stock. Feel free to stop on by!
