Bloodlines had a different name for its EU release, didn't it? Does
anybody happen to know if that release was actually coded with different
graphics, or if the same ROM just behaves differently depending on the
region of the console? I always thought that the EU version of the cart
would be interesting to own, especially since Bloodlines was one of the
many carts that Majesco reissued in large numbers.

the extra bit of code.

Indeed, it's called "The New Generation".

From what I've heard, the PAL versions of the game were censored, so
I'd assume they were a completely different rom. It's weird too, because
instead of blood in most places they change it to water...and all the
zombies bleed colors link pink and green.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Japanese version of the game(which is said to
be easier) just for the small changes from the US version, but the
Japanese version goes for $100+ most of the time. I'll most likely just
try to the rom...

Contra: Hard Corps is the same way in Japan - Easier, but FAR more
expensive to own. What's weird is that games usually have their
difficulty toned down before coming to the US, but the Japanese actually
got the easier versions on both of these. Contra actually has life
bars, if you can believe it, which is why most people want it so badly.
Me? I've beaten it on *one* life...hard core indeed. ;)

Is there anything actually different about it?

Not if you play it on a US Dreamcast with a boot disk, because it's a
superset of the code. But put it in a PAL-region console, and the online
component doesn't charge you for server connections. By way of apology to
the EU region for getting the game localized so late, Sega didn't charge
Europeans to play online for any version of PSO on the DC. This is only
important to people who want to use homebrew servers and don't want to
hack their own payment servers too.

Bel pretty much answered your question, but for the sake of discussion
I'll reply too. They are different Roms, and the EU version is
censored. Even the title screen is blue instead of red so it doesn't
look like blood. Apparently somebody cut a bunch of veins instead of
arteries this time.

Ah, I see.

While I've got you, and I know this is a bit personal and I probably
shouldn't be bringing it up here...and if you'd rather not talk about
it, it's fine...but, and again, no offense or anything...

What was up with all that logging on and off of Xbox Live last night
around 3am!? ;)

Heheheheh!
(sorry, just had to do it)

I start work at around 6:00 or so, so I'm normally up at 3:00 anyway. I
just picked up a copy of Kingdom Under Fire and wanted to see how it
worked on the backward compatibility emulator on the 360. I'm likely to be
playing it on the original hardware as a result of the limited test I ran.

Relevant to your question, logging on to MS Passport on the web page
counts as Xbox Live access. So if you check your billing information on
the website it marks that as your last logon time on the friends list. So
unless you see me actually sign in, you can't actually be sure when I was
last on the 360. :)

-KKC, who just picked up Popolocrois for no discernible reason.

I was really excited when I heard that the 360 would not only support
certain Xbox titles, but also upscale them to 720p...sadly, it just
didn't pan out as well as I'd of hoped. The problem with the 360's
software emulation is that it actually tries to make Xbox games look
better, rather than just straight-up emulating them...which leads to all
sorts of issues.

Take a look at this at some point...some of that shit is scary:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitysupport issues.htm

There are a few exceptions...like Doom 3, which looks awesome when
upscaled on the 360, but it seems like that sort of thing is few and far
between. :(

Well, I don't know about that...from what I've seen, the only thing that
actually signs you in to Xbox Live is either an Xbox console or a
Windows Live PC game. I don't think that viewing your "My Xbox" page or
anything inside it actually signs you on. It's possible that Windows
Messenger may sign you in, but I don't think it does. Something to test
though, I'd be interesting in hearing one way or the other for certain.

It's no big deal, I was just sort of harassing you to, well, harass you. ;)
