Maybe I'm just too much of a snob when it comes to consoles but two
things always deterred me from buying a CDX. I don't like that it looks
like a portable CD player, not a console, and I don't like that it's so
small that I might yank the whole thing off the shelve with the weight
of my extended controller cord.

That last statement seems a bit off somehow though...

Oh, have you never held one before? It's made out of that same thick
plastic as the first Saturn, and the springs in the cart slot door and the
CD drive lid are solid and beefy. It exceeds a PSOne unit in mass and it
looks perfectly at home next to a PC-Engine or a CDi. To me, it's
aesthetically the equal of any other console.

-KKC, who has two CDX units for reasons passing understanding.

I agree with your description actually, I just prefer the Sega CD model
1 second only to the X'eye. The CDX up at my old job was always moving
around on the shelf because of the weight of the controller wires, the
only console I have that does that is the Dreamcast. I also prefer the
DUO to the PC-Engine, but I see your point on the validity of the CDX's
aesthetic design.
