Several people have been discussing whether an Admiral can command
a ship as opposed to a fleet. Did anyone notice what Scotty's rank
was on the Excelsior? Engineering CAPTAIN. He had equal rank with that
whiteglovebythebookregulationhemmmedclown Stile, but was subordinate.
Two possible resolutions to the generic problem of a Ship-Commanding
Admiral.... 1) Put Kirk in command of a fleet, with a command crew of
his choice on the flagship. (This is certainly viable. Try telling
Halsey or Nimitz that they have to stay at home while the fleets out)
The other solution, if the Excelsior has captains as dept. heads, why
not a commanding admiral?
