Is the book *Beneath Apple DOS* still in print? I found a copy a couple
of years ago, but didn't buy it (alas). Now that I know it's an essential
part of any true hacker's professional library, I can't seem to find it.
Could someone tell me if it's still available, the ISBN number, and the
publisher's name and address? Thanks.

Yes, this book is still available. I'm surprised you haven't been able to
find it. Most well stocked, Apple-oriented computer stores carry it, and
its companion 'Beneath Apple PRODOS' (Data Domain in Schaumburg has it).

Anyway, the publisher is:

      Quality Software
      21601 Marilla Street
      Chatsworth, Ca 91311

These books are also available from Call-APPLE, one of the largest Apple
user groups around. It is worthwhile for Apple users of any skill level.
Their address is:

      A.P.P.L.E.
      290 S.W. 43rd Street
      Renton, Wa 98055
      (206) 251-5222 or (800) 426-3667 for orders or membership application.

There is another book out now which is better. I think it is called the
Apple Programmer's Handbook. Though there are many books out with similar
names, this is the one that came out just this year and with totally
worthwhile information. Among other things, it has much of the basic
information in the Beneath Apple DOS book. Unfortunately, it doesn't go into
PRODOS.
