I'll be in my ready room. You have the bridge, Mr. Spock. I have to attend
to my focusing ritual.

Aye, Sir.
Captain, I have to point out that you recently have had quite a number of
absences from the bridge. I believe that your frequent absence is not
totally within Starfleet regulations.

Yes, Mr. Spock. But, you know, it's just a short break. To concentrate. To
get a chance to focus. My kind of period, you could call it. And it's only
five times a day!

Human females have their period, Captain. And you, to the best of my
knowledge, are definitely not a female! And FIVE times a day, Captain?

Well, you know .

Sir?

I have to, Mr. Spock. I just have to do it!

Do what, Captain?

Well, you know.

I do not know, Captain.

Mr. Spock, a man has to deliver his unreserved attribute - from time to
time. And to me, the five times a day applies just adequately. Now, if you
will have me excused.

At what time will you return, Captain?

Oh, it shouldn't take that long, Mr. Spock. Just give me a few minutes.

Very well, Captain. I will keep the Enterprise ready for you when you have
finished your business.

I know, I can always count on you, Mr. Spock!

Indeed, you can, Captain.

Do you want to come along?

Captain?

Come on, Spock. Give it a try!

Captain, I have to remind you, that Vulcan periods are far more distributed
over time than those of humans.

Well, we're in the middle of space, Mr. Spock. No one will ever know, that
you joined with me. Oh, joined me!

Captain?

Oh, come of it, Mr. Spock. You'll love it, I'm sure. Think about the
benefits of it. You do have considered the benefits, haven't you, Mr. Spock?

Oh yes, I have. In details, I might add. And I have to say that I find the
implications quite fascinating!

Well then, come on, Spocky. Just the two of us joining each other - each
other's focusing. It'll be like a mind melt!

Captain, if I decide to join with you - join you - should I leave the course
unchanged or should I make a course correction?

Anything you like, my dear Spock. As a matter of fact, any course will do
just nicely - for our little off course.

Very well, Captain. And by further contemplation, after all, for a Starfleet
captain I find no irregularity in taking five judicious absences per day.

Captain, I have to ask you: You're not a .

Of course, I'm not! What did you think?

I'm sorry, Captain. I just thought for a second, that you actually were a ..

Think no more about it! Now, it's just you and I with your heads held high -
so to speak.

Captain, couldn't we do this on the bridge?

Of course not! What on earth were you thinking about, Mr. Spock?

Well, actually, I was thinking of the very place on earth at which we are
supposed to point our heads, Captain.

I'm not sure, I quite follow you, Mr. Spock.

Neither am I, Captain. Stupid of me to ask in the first place. Obviously,
You're not a ..

A what?

A person whose personal preferences are of such a non-Sterfleet nature and
have such profoundly personal impact that they - with reference to you as
captain of this ship - would gravely influence your professional judgment
and thereby endanger the safety of the Enterprise.

Well spoken, Mr. Spock. I couldn't have put it better myself.
All right then, shall we get on with it, Mr. Spock?

Any time you like, dear Captain.

Now, that's the Mr. Spock, that I like.

Yes, Captain!

.. and off they went.
