I saw the show for the very first time last night and it felt really
scripted. Customers come in one at a time and they immediately go to the
front counter to ask some questions.

First there was a woman looking for a birthday present for her boyfriend.
They talked her into buying a very expensive Spider-Man back issues where
Gwen Stacy was killed. (Lady, it has been reprinted countless times and you
could find a copy of Marvel Tales at cover price.)

Then a guy came in with a Green Lantern's lantern and thought that it's
worth a lot of money. It wasn't.

Essentially, there were never more than one customer in the store at the
same time and nobody is there to buy latest issues.

Then they started talking about what kind of tattoos they'd get. Kevin's
wife's name is Jenny and he said if he's ever divorced, he could change the
tattoo to Denny's.

I must give credits to Kevin Smith because he's quite funny. He described
Firestorm as "a male teacher entering a high-school student." (Well, it's
actually quite true in his original incarnation.)

In any case, I don't think it's worth staying up for.

"Unscripted" is usually meant to mean no (or limited) dialogue. Often
senarios are plotted out.

It's the thought that counts.

Fair enough.

Certainly it's staged; people walk in the door and nobody even looks at
the cameramen.

That was so odd. He considers that the most romantic Spider-Man
story??? Not to mention he left out the part where JMS retconned it so
Gwen is a slut and the Goblin didn't kill her for any reason related to
Spider-Man, but just to cover up the illegitimate kids she bore him.

And the Goblin certainly didn't die; that's all been retconned as well.

I'd concur.

Nothing in "unscripted" means it isn't staged. Many mockumentaries
are unscripted but certainly stage.

How big are the cameras? Could they have simply edited out the scenes of
customers looking at the cameras? or was it just one continuous shot from
the door to counter?

Apparently the comic biz is slow if they only get one customer an hour.

There's handheld stuff in multiple angles. There's clearly a couple of
camera crews and lighting and microphones in plain sight.

More importantly, one at a time.

Of course, comic book shops do tend to get a couple busy days (comics
come in on a set day, and then the first weekend after that day) and are
slow the rest of the time.

Still it would be more interesting to watch these guys on comic book day
when a mob descends on them!

Yes, it's clearly a case of people coming in and they get hit with a
release form and then they do their entrance again for the cameras.

>>

Now, now. There have been a couple of times when there were a couple
of people browsing while they talked to the main person. Of course the
real reason is a combination of what you explain below about the slow
days for comic book shops and the need to get release forms and put
people on camera. I imagine a lot of people don't want to be shown.

Prolly so folks realize it is a tv show and not some nutcases with web and

Yeah. The show does skew heavily towards first time customers though,
and looking for collectibles. We don't see any bread and butter of the
regulars swarming in on Comic Book Day.

And I think the old guy (who is way younger than he looks) with the
silly beard is probably scripted; he asks questions that only somebody
that had never been in a comic book shop in his life would ask,
presumably for the audience's benefit.

What?! Per Wikipedia and the AMC website, the season is only 6 episodes--and
last Sunday's ep was the season finale.

Animator FSK seemed to think you were saying that the season finale
would have a mob descending on them as the cliffhanger ending.

Oh. I thought you were making a clever joke based on TWD where all AMC
season finales would entail a descending mob and ensuing wackiness.

That's what I was suggesting, that the season finale would be on a busy
crowded day. I was checking to wikipedia to see when the season finale would
be to see what comics would be coming out around then when I found out we
already saw the season finale.

I was. I thought the finale would feature them on a Wednesday when new
comics are released and a flood of customers would hit the store. That's why
I was checking wikipedia to see when the season finale would be and then I
was gonna check DC and Marvel's websites to see what comics / events would
be featured then. Instead I learned the above.

Then I find your reaction to Animator FSK's "that was funny"
confusing.

My "What?!" was directed at Wikipedia and the show for having such a short
season with an anti-climatic season finale.

That wasn't clear to me, and it seems it wasn't to Animator FSK
either.

The "What?!" probably could have gone after.

What?! Per Wikipedia and the AMC website, the season is only 6
episodes--and
last Sunday's ep was the season finale.
