I am using IBM pascal on an XT to build a large applications program.
Some of the modules in the package seem to be nearing some sizing
limit in the compiler; they get a "Compiler out of Memory" message.
I thought that raising the amount of memory from 192K to 25K would
fix it, but there is no difference.

The limit may be associated with the amount of literal strings present;
modules with more strings seem to get the problem at a lower threshold
(some are as short as 70 lines) than do other modules (I have one that
is 800+ lines, and has never had a problem).

The compiler was purchased in June of '83. Does anyone know anything about
the nature of the problem, and whether IBM has alleviated it in any later
release?

Thanks in advance. Please send responses directly to me, as I don't
normally read this newsgroup.
