I'm looking for IBM PC software (under PC-DOS) that will allow me to
transmit text files in both directions between a PC (or XT) and a
VAX-11 running 4.2 bsd. The connection is logically hard-wired, but
physically there's some multiplexing. I'm currently using PC-TALK III,
which is not reliable for large files at more than 1200 baud. Nor does
it allow me to do anything else while transmission is taking place.

Can anyone recommend a program that will transmit 60-KB files at 4800
baud? Particularly attractive would be one that includes facilities
for doing at least limited work while transmission is in progress.
Even better might be one that can run under a windowing program.

Have you thought of KERMIT? It communicates well at speeds
up to 9600 and runs under 4.2.
