I saw a few paragraphs in the latest BYTE about Commodore
releasing a computer called B128 with 2 processors, one of
which was a 2 Mhz Z80 for running Cpm. The other interesting
piece of news in that short article was the release of a
faster disk drive that would be very fast with the C64 and
even faster than that with the B128. This B128 has 128K and
is supposed to cost less than $400.

They showed a picture of the B128 and I believe I saw the same
computer (casing, at least) in some advertisement. Is it true
that this B128 is a rerelease of an old computer they had out?

Another rumor I've heard: Commodore is going to come out with
a 1200 baud modem.

I would like to believe a lot of the stuff I've read/heard...

Give me some support and I will. (Yes, that means reply with
your rumors :-)

Thanks,

Yep, the B-128 was an old computer Commodore introduced into the
business market but it didn't catch on in the US. They scrapped
the project (If you've noticed great deals on the old B-128
from mail order houses). The name is now used for the 64 compat
that they are about to release. Don't get the two comfused.
You mentioned something about a 1200 baud modem? Keep
me posted I'm HIGHLY intrested.

;

I have some one page data sheets on the new commodore products.
Commodore will mail these right out if you ask for them.
Call (215) 436-4200

A few highlights:

The new C64 compatible is the C128, not the B128. As in C64.
128K RAM, 64K ROM, 8502 processor (6502 compatible), Z80 processor,
40/80 columns in color (RGB and composite), RAM expandable to 512K,
full C64 compatibility, CP/M capable with new drive.
C64 mode is 1MHz 40 column, C128 mode is 1 or 2 MHz 40/80 column,
CP/M mode is 4MHz 80 column.

The new drive is the 1571. In 1541 mode speed is 300 cps.
In 1571 mode speed is 1500 cps. In CP/M mode speed is 3500 cps.
CP/M format is IBM system 34 (Kaypro and Osborne)!

They also have a lap computer with 80x16 LCD screen.

Prices I have seen rumored are $250 for C128, $300 for 1571,
$500 for C-LCD. Due date is April.
