Subject: Video game exhibit-pce& pc-fx
hey List, yesterday, i went to the national science museum in ueno (where=
there was a killer star wars exhibit recently) to see the really cool vide=
o game exhibit. they had lots of cool stuff and sold a great exclusive boo=
k there which went a little further than most other game books in that it h=
ad a pippin, playdia, a laseractive and some other things not often includ=
ed in the game family. the pc engine was nicely represented there by an or=
iginal pce, a second display with a pce + cd rom, a duo, a duo R, a GT, =
and, an LT. there was also a tv monitor running a video of three games bei=
ng played: r-type I, tokimeki memorial (not sure why), and another game i =
can't recall right now. of the 16 bit systems, i believe only the pc engin=
e had such a video display. it has a nice display in the book that i bought=
and the feauture games in that are: tokimeki memorial (again), tengai ma=
kyou manji maru which, this book claims, features 100 hours of play time, =
china warrior, bomberman, r-type I, a mahjong type game (maybe shanghai?)=
and Ys I & II. there is also an interview with three guys from hudson sof=
t about the pc engine which looks like it might be cool. i'll need to get =
some help translating it. if anyone is interested, i can post it here or =
any of the turbo fan sites out there can have it for their use.
the pc-fx was displayed with no real fanfare just showing the console and a=
controller. it, and just about all the other systems also had their origi=
nal boxes displayed as well. it also got half a page in the book featuring=
the tengai makyou anime fighter- forgot the name.
anyway, they also featured something i've never seen before though i think=
i have heard of it. it's called the x1 twin and it looks almost like a b=
lack pc-fx. there doesn't appear to be a cd-drive but there does appear to=
be a 5"disc drive. everything loads through the front. what was this thi=
ng? =20
the laseractive was kind of neat too. it was shown in the museum with the =
mega drive pack next to it but in the book, they show it the same with wha=
t appears to be a pc engine pack built into the machine. is this possible?=
also, it seems that the pcengine controller was actually called he Laser=
Pro or something like that. it 's the same body as other turbo controlers =
but the colors on the pad's sticker are gold & red. was it easy to buy add=
itional pads of this kind?
in addition to the questions above, i'd also like to know about the follow=
ing:
i saw an LT up close and in person for the first time and was stunned becau=
se i was always under the impression that it was bigger and that it had a c=
d drive. but, this machine looked as though it was just an oversized GBA =
SP and could only play hu cards. i mean, yeah it looks cool and it may ha=
ve had a tv tuner built in, i think, but, i thought this thing could play=
cd's....what gives?
finally, i asked this list a little while back if it would be possible to =
emulate the pc engine on the PC-FX and was told that it probably couldn't b=
e done because of the slow processor but, the pc-fx- if these numbers in th=
e book are correct- seems to be only slightly slower than a saturn which i =
never thought of as a slow machine. so, i'll ask again, is it possible?
i have picturesbut i am not sure if we are allowed to send pix thoru=
gh this list. they are small and can send them to the list if it's okay.
okay, my express from TZD is coming from home in the US. i have waited 14=
years for this and can't wait to get my mits on it to play it. i have a c=
onverter coming with it and am really psyched!

take care all, george
