Looks like quite a nice turn based strategy somewhat like a cross between Final
Fantasy Tactics and Faselei.

From the screenshots I've seen, rather a lot of the in-game text (menus,
actions, item names etc) all seem to be in plain english... it also looks
rather nice.... The PC-Engine software bible
(http://pcenginebible.roarvgm.com/HTML_Games/Solid_Force.htm) has got a couple
of tracks from the cd and I love the music!

So, my questions are; is the game at all playable without understanding
japanese, is it the case that you can play but perhaps the mission goals will
not be known.. and lastly, what are the rarity and availability levels of the
game?

Yes, it's quite playable once you do a few practice run-throughs and learn
what the menus are. Since all the despriptions are in English, all you have
to do is figure out what does what on the menu.....writing it down in a
simple key should be sufficient (but i never bothered). My buddy got hooked
on it coming over to my house to play it, and I think he must have cleared
at least the first 4 or 5 stages.

The mission goals are mapped out graphically between levels, sometimes with
some English, and they point you to the goals as well...it's not all that
hard to figure out.

As for availability, I have one available for sale at the moment (last
copy). I don't know if it has the spine, but I"m pretty sure it's near
mint-mint. It's not super rare or super expensive...

I have it listed as a $20 R4 (out of ten) in the new Digital Press Advance
guide, which will have a complete PC Engine price guide (most of the games
have genre listings too!). If case anyone is interested in the DP Price
Guide to cover PC Engine rarities and values as well as all other 16 bit
games and all the way up to DC games, you can preorder one at 20% off here:
http://www.digitpress.com/dpg_plug_advance.htm
Please mention my name (Nate VanLindt) in the "referred by" preorder Paypal
box!

Anyway, email me if you're interested in the Solid Force I have available!

Thanks!

It's a new Flash Card for the PC-Engine/TG. It was released recently by a
company called Tototek, which has made flash cartridges for several other
systems recently. I don't mean to promote them, but their website can be
found at http://www.tototek.com.

The review above basically gives high ratings for the unit, but low marks
for the software and its bugginess.

Sounds really promising, I'm going to try and pick a copy up.

Incidentally I think I've found a local games shop that has Solid Force
in, and a lot more besides:

http://www.videogameimports.com

For any other listers in the UK/Europe, they look like a pretty good
source of retro games, rather than the normally expensive import and vat
routine we sometimes face. Telegames.co.uk is about the only other place -
all new stock, but VERY expensive.

I've found videogameimports to be invariably quite high on their prices...I
don't like doing business with them at all. They seem to do well becuase a
lot of Euro gamers don't know who to ask for stuff, and a lot of people
scrwe them on shipping, but PCE stuff can be had MUCH cheaper. Often times
for as low as half their asking price, in my experience.

Granted, I'm in North America, but still, I should be able to beat their
price (since I have it in stock), and I've got plenty of references!
