Hey everyone,

Can anyone recommend a converter that would let me play North American
Hu-cards on a PC Engine Duo RX? I bet there are a bunch out there; which
would be best? I guess the Asian counterpart of the kisado is what I'm
looking for.

Also, does anyone have any idea where I could get one?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Believe it or not, the Kisado will do this... however, there is another
issue that will prevent you from playing US games on a non-US system.

Just about all US HuCards have a country lock out code in them (in fact,
Klax is the only one that I know of that does not), so they will not
work on Japanese systems.

Any converter that works one way will work the other, you just have to mod
your system.

I was wondering about this awhile ago also... I ended up just buying a PC
Engine Duo and the Japanese version of my favorite Hucards. :)

The Turbo List: Our drivers carry less than $20 in cash (mainly because
they're always broke from buying TG/Duo/PCE games), but none the less,
it's just something that you should be aware of.

The way it works is that of the 38 pins on a HuCard, the middle pins
(specifically 15-17 and 19-23, where 18 is ground) are flipped between
US and Jp cards. Either way, the converters like the Kisado (and
Purple Barney, diving board, Mirai, etc) merely "flip" these going from
the HuCard to the hardware. The problem Bt mentioned is that US
HuCards have a lockout where it polls the processor to check the region
of the hardware, causing US HuCards to not work on non-US hardware
(although Japanese HuCards work fine on US hardware with the
converters). To defeat the region block, you must lift pin 29 on the
Hu6280 processor and ground it to the board. This allows you to use
the US cards on any Japanese unit. The only game I've ever seen
affected negatively by this mod is Aldynes for the SuperGrafx. This
game hangs during the attract mode, but works fine if you start the
game before advancing in the attract mode.

The pin 29 mod is simple enough, although that tiny little pin is quite
sensitive.

If anyone is in need of this mod or the hardware region mod (meaning
installing the region switch to surpass the use of the Kisado or other
converter), please let me know and I can provide it.

On a side note, any one looking to sell? Let me know that too!

BT,
Is there a tentative release date for the DLX version yet?
And are you accepting preorders yet?
