I love this game too. You can read my review of it at pcenginefx.com. It's
a great simple game for those new to the genre. It was the first game that
introduced me to TGL's games. Now I'm a big fan. I'm collecting all the
original Farland Story games for PC-98. I especially loved Farland Saga 2
("toki no michishirube") for windows. The newest installment for windows,
Farland Symphony was also quite good, but that was released 2 years ago. I
hope they make a new one eventually, but it's starting to look doubtful.

About the part where you're stuck, I only vaguely remember the exact part
you're on, but there is always a switch or something located somewhere in
the stage in order to open doors like that or trigger certain events in the
game. Usually they're located in fairly obvious places, so just try placing
your characters in the most suspicious-looking spots on the map. My
Japanese wasn't too good when I played this game, but I managed to finish
it. Sometimes the dialogue in the game will tell you how to open things
like this, and if you can't understand, you're going to have a bit of a
difficult time. Another tight spot I remember is in another stage about
halfway through the first part of the game. There's a medusa who sits there
on a town, and she keeps getting her HP back every turn because she's on a
town. They only way I managed to win was by using the main character to
attack her every turn while constantly healing him and giving him extra
turns using the "extra turn-giving character". He'll keep gaining
experience and eventually become strong enough to take her out. But the
rest of the game was a bit unbalanced after that because his level was way
higher than the rest of the characters.

Anyway, I hope you figure out the part you're stuck on. It's a great game,
and it would be a shame if you never got to play past stage 3 or 5.
