Some kind soul sent a response to my plea about the MS assembler 1.25.
Unfortunately, the semi-automatic sorting equipment in the electronic
post office mangled the letter so badly that I couldn't read the return
address. Whoever it was, thanks. Whoever it was said that a new version
of both the assembler and the linker would be a great improvement over
the old ones (and that since he was working on it, we should regard such
claims with some skepticism.)

Anyway, it seems that if an "extrn" statement occurs within the scope of
some segment, the extern is assumed to be in that segment, even if it is
declared far. Strange but true -- the manual even agrees.

John Levine, ima!johnl or Levine@YALE.ARPA

(Note: if the return address says, godot!johnl, don't believe it.)
