Intel is delivering the 8087-2 which is the 8 mh version of the usual
8087 4.77 mh chip. Is the new FP chip alluded to in a
previous article the same speedup of the 80287 chip?

The 8087-2's can fit in the ATT PC 6300 and the Compaq Deskpro. I haven't
tried an 8087-2, but the speedup is probably considerable, and could
provide good competition to the (current) AT for floating point calculations.
