you'll find that osaka has its own mini-version of akihabara called
nihom-bashi (or something like that). takumi suidu showed it to me a
few years ago and it's pretty impressive. many of the shops are
similar to those in akihabara but they are cheaper (by about 10% or so)
and, jsut as importantly, you'll very likely find things you won't see
in akihabara. i remember seeing Bandai Pippin's, Playdia's,
Colecovision DINA's, FM Towns Marty's,and lots of Japanese 3DO
software, and much more. i don't know why that is exactly but,
fortunately for you, you'll find all of these shops clustered together
akihabara style. enjoy! george

My personal favorite shop in the Kansai region is the Ninomiya store
that is in front of Enmachi station (From Kyoto Station, take Sagano/San-In line to
Enmacchi) granted, it is a little far from Osaka, but... come on... experience
the culture of Kyoto ^_-. Anywhoo, there is a used video game shop on the
second floor of that building called, "Move" and they offer various used video
games, CDs, DVDs, etc. I picked up Y's IV for Y980. In addition, they had the
usual assortment of wonderful used consoles. They had a used
Supergraphix, used PC-FX, used Neo Geo, Virtual On twin-sticks for Sega Saturn for Y930, a fairly
decent selection of PC Engine games (if I recall, they had about 35-45 titles
in stock), and a rather intimidaing selection of classic Famicom games.
Should you go out of your way to go to Niyomiya? I don't know. But if you are
headed anywhere toward Kyoto and have a couple of minutes to spare, go
for it. >
