As I posted earlier on this topic....they were made by "Excite Software"
out of Texas. This info is from an insider at NEC. Beyond that I have
no other info on Excite Software. I can assure you that these things
were not carried at "Toys R Us" in the US.

So, by this definition, "Implode" is also a "pirate" title ? To me,
homebrew means exactly what it says: it was made at someone's home,
regardless of whether it was released for profit, or in commercial
packaging. But to each their own opinion.

I dont think im ever going to explain my thoughts on this one ( for the
record id call implode homebrew ) :) . Surely you have to agree that
homebrew in 2003 is completely different to homebrew in the late 80's /
early 90's. All im saying is that 10 or so years ago a homebrew production
would not have been up to the std that the hawaii girls cds are, ie i dont
think they would have had covers, and pressed cds with graphical labels.
Perhaps im wrong, im comparing to what went on in the UK. Surely you
wouldnt of expected Implode to look as good as it does ( ie packaging etc )
if it was done back when the turbo was released? I seriously doubt it, in
fact would it of even been possible to do?. So to summarise, *I THINK* the
hawaii girls cd may only be up to todays homebrew quality ( Implode is
clearly better ), but 10 years ago it would have beyond what homebrewers
were able to do ( not code or game wise, but packaging wise ). Anyways its
just my opinion.. perhaps im completely wrong, so be it.. im not from or in
the US and wasnt around when the turbo was released, its an interesting
topic though.

The only store in Japan which had one of each of the three was an
import store in Akihabara. Now I say "import" because this store, to
this day, really only carries North American Genesis, Dreamacst,
Playstation, etc. games. They have almost no Japanese stuff. (That seems to be a growing trend there. I was stunned to see
imported Dreamcast VMUs, keyboards, controllers and games at stores
like SofMap, Laox, and other big chains.) Anyway, about LGoH, I used to see them for sale through video game
stores that did mail order. In fact, I think that's where I got mine
(I only ever had the first one). Whether they are homebrew or not,
they are sought after and worth having if only because they are the
first "successful" homebrew attempts for the system. I say
"successful" because 10 years after their release, people are still
looking for them and we are still talking about them. But for
entertainment value, they are probably rated only a little higher than
the Saturn E-book disc. As for point of origin, I have to say Hawaii. I've never seen
these photos anyplace else so whoever made this probably had worked
with the person or people who shot these photos which apperently were
shot in Hawaii. Since I have never seen this content anywhere else, I
assume it was all exclusive to the Duo release. The English writing
and the fact that, if I'm not mistaken, "PC Engine" is not on there but
"TurboDuo" is have to account for something. The other thing that is interesting is that LGoH really got me
thinking that it was possible to do do unofficial things with the Duo.
I've always wanted to put together a photo Cd and stills of statistics,
photos of fans playing, screenshots, even fan art or brief video clips
of great Turbo games with my own remixes of fave Turbo music playing in
the background. a Turbo Tribute disc of sorts. LGoH let me think that
was all somehow possible because somebody was able to stick 50 Hawaiian
cuties onto a disc.

So, is there a full-fledged Turbo/PC Engine forum in existence anywhere?
Like the forums at Neo-Geo.com with active threads, selling, wanted,
general sections? I think there really needs to be one somewhere.

Anyone want to start one?

It's nothing official, but there are allot of turbo fans (quite a few of
them list members) at www.gametz.com and there is a vintage games forum that
turbo topics pop up in frequently. If you don't see a current one then just
start up a new topic and most of the turbo fans on the site will find it.
They are actually offering a current promotion where you get 1 months free
of subscription time so you have nothing to lose and might actually end up
finding a bunch of turbo goodies other game related items to trade for in
the process.
