Hey, I am now modding a TG-16. I thought it was going to be easier than
a Duo, but one thing that slows you down is removing all the shielding.
It has many points on the board where it is soldered, but that is where
the desoldering iron comes in handy. I purchased mine from Radio Shack
for $9.99 (45 Watt part number 64-2060). However, I would recommend
getting a smaller desolder tip for it for modding a TG-16 since some of
the points are hard to clean up with the standard tip. The desolder tip
is also great for removing the pins from the board for wiring. I also
put some of these updates on the install instructions:

http://www.geocities.com/duo_r@sbcglobal.net/files/switch.install.txt

Make sure you hit F5 if you don't see any changes to get lates update!
Are these instructions helping anyone understand better? If I am
confusing someone, please let me know.

Erik

Found the following in the archives, but I can't find this information
on GameSx.com. Anyone know how I can mod a TG-16 to have RCA plugs
without getting a Turbo Booster?

The turbo booster is actually a pretty simple device, there's no
reason anyone with a little electronic assembly competence couldn't
make one of their own.

www.gamesx.com should contain what you need.

Tengai Makyo 4: Apocalypse is a real sequel. The developers at Red being
as funny guys as they were decided to just skip 3 after cancelling and
restructuring the project so many times and move right on to Tengai
Mayko 4. It's actually a great game though it takes place in more of a
modern era and isn't as tradional of an RPG as the earlier games in the
series. There is a complete Walkthrough of the title on GameFaqs.com . I
don't like it as much as Manji Maru but I still think it is a fantastic
title. But I have an affinity for old sprite based- anime style RPGs myself.

Wow, that was a long time ago!

I based that statement on my brief examination of the guts of mine. If I
recall correctly, there were no active or passive components, just routings
from the external port to the RCA plugs.

I don't know when I'll next have a chance to have my booster in hand (in
storage), but I can have a look at it when that happens.

It is possible to get a/v out without the booster. Someone one made me some
cables and drove from OH to IL. He was crazy and he also brought his
portable NES. I don't remember his name. He tested each pin on the back of
the turbo and found the connection for stereo sound and the composite video.
Maybe if he reads this he will reply to us.

Later,

I did this not long ago and can confirm that from the 5 pin din plug, only 4
pins are used. Left and Right audio, Video and Ground.

Pin 1 is Composite Video
Pin 2 is RED audio
Pin 3 is GND
Pin 5 is WHITE audio

This is looking directly into the cable connector for the Japanese Core
system.

Sorry I was a bit ambiguous there with the pin numbers.

Holding the 5 pin din cable in front of you with the indentation on the
bottom so that the 5 pins are situated on the top half of the hemisphere, my
reference to pin 1 is on the far left and counting clockwise to pin 5 on the
far right. So here goes again

Pin 1 is Composite Video
Pin 2 is RED audio
Pin 3 is GND
Pin 5 is WHITE audio

Also this is for the Japanese Core systems and I do not know if it is the
same for the American TG-16 units. I can't see why they should change it
though.

Change it they did - there is no A/V out per se on the TG-16 units - it's
present on the rear in the large expansion plug that the turbo booster/turbo
booster plus plugs into.

Kind of a way to force people to buy one or the other.
