Several replies on my problem with the SID noise confirm,
that there is a problem. Among other's comments, the noise
is digital and probably due to the SID sharing the same
ground as the micro circuits. So if you are experiencing
the same problem, programming the both the oscillator and
volume simultaneously is the best software cure. A possible
hardware cure is to disconnect the common ground as the
Commodore manual says it is (but it's not).

				Good Luck

I'll try the latter and post the results. Thanks to all
	who responded.
