sorry bout the double post but the rest of my last message got cut

"My assumption would be that the attempt here is to make something like a
walkman with a screen. While it's an interesting idea, the biggest problem I
foresee would be needing some sort of skip protection. The Duo's not meant
to be held and moved around while being played, ya know..."

I don't think so. I've been pondering this problem and I believe there's a way
to work around this limitation. The key here is that I'm just proposing the
idea and wanted to know if there was any interest in it. I plan to do some
research of my own into just how feasable it is, but as of yet I haven't had
time to look into it.

"Yikes...yeah...good luck on that. Portable Duo? What in the heck are you
talking about? Are you planning on gluing a Duo monitor on top of the Duo?
If you were to work out the power requirements where you could take it on the
go, the whole setup would be something less than...erm...portable. It's kind
of like an Xbox with a screen and battery pack. Portable? Bah...the thing
weighs 800 pounds and you can't exactly walk down the street playing the
bloody thing."

I never intended on using the duo monitor because, 1 they're VERY expensive for
what you get, and 2 I have no data on them. But thanks for your encouragement
none the less >:(
If everyone here has as limited a view of this kind of thing as you three maybe
I shouldn't attempt this as there obviously wouldn't be any interest in it.

James,

I, for one, think this is a good idea. I always wanted a portable PCE+CD
attachment type thing. Of course the current form factor is too big to be
convienient. However, for those that did not know, the original Duo was
designed somewhat to be portable. Both the Duo and the Duo Monitor have
battery pack addons. So although it would be clumsy and a burden to carry
around a Duo + monitor + battery packs + controller(s) + games, it
wouldn't be practical IMO.

Hell, if somebody could fit a thin slot loading CD-ROM and somehow connect
it underneath a PCE-LT and get it all to work, then that would be pretty
cool.

Hell, I'd settle for a GBA (SP) sized GT.

I Think a portable duo would be very cool, something i would love to have, i
hate having to leave my machines out near the tv,have been broken into
before and dont want to risk losing them again. With a portable i would
easily stash it, not to mention take it to work :)

I think this qould be a GREAT idea.
Look at the size of todays portable cd players.
Now, add with the case the neccesary buttons on either side of this case. =
The monitor could be either one of those really small screens like on PDAs =
on the front, or one could imagine corded or wireless video goggles with =
the monitor inside. While expensive, these types of glasses already are =
out there. The technology exists for this sort of setup. Just not the =
person to acually try to manufacture something like this. Using the 3" =
cds - aka gamecube, I would imagine things could go even smaller. wish I =
had the resources and knowledge to put something like this together.

I already have a portable Duo. I call it MagicEngine and I run it on my
laptop. I have a usb gamepad hooked up to it and I can enjoy my Duo games
wherever I go and there is no need to destroy a perfectly functional Duo.
Sure, some people may say that MagicEngine doesn't give you that authentic
feel but isn't that the whole point of so called emulators? Aren't they
here to preserve the game systems? I only have one Duo and with
MagicEngine, I also have an Express/Duo hybrid. I'm not saying that this is
right for everyone so if you want to continue on your journey, then by all
means do so but every single unsuccessful attempt you make, that's one more
Duo that someone can't enjoy. That's my 2 cents.

Subject: System Card 1.0

Hello Turbo List Members!

I was just wondering if anyone out there has a spare System Card 1.0 they're
willing to part with. I have a copy of Altered Beast CD that I've been
wanting to play on my Duo for a while now. Please e-mail me directly at
spdudoff@earthlink.net. Thanks.

Stefan
