Actually there are quite a few homebrew games being made for a number
of systems older the the TG. Vectrex, Atari 2600, Atari 5200,
Colecovision, Odyssey...maybe a few more I'm not thinking of.
Sega CD has had a few new games released. And Atari Jaguar...any more
I'm not remembering?

Proving that earlier suppositions were not unfounded, Japanese publisher
DigiCube has confirmed plans to release Ys Eternal Story for PlayStation 2
in Japan next spring. Eternal Story is a remixed compilation of the first
two games in Falcom's classic top-down action-RPG series, updated with
superior graphics and sound, as well as new original game elements. Most
latter-day RPG fans will give this one a pass, but the series' small cult
following should be quite excited.
The first two Ys games were originally developed for the MSX home computer
in 1987 and 1988, but they gained their greatest following together as one
of the first console CD-ROM games, for the PC-Engine/Turbografx CD
expansion. Their use of voice acting, animated cinematic sequences, and
CD-quality music provided an exceptional aesthetic experience for the time,
aided by the work of creators like composer Yuzo Koshiro (who would go on to
considerable fame with his work on the Sega Genesis). Its gameplay is more
than a little dated from a modern perspective -- the first two games still
required that the player simply run into an enemy to attack them -- but this
was, after all, a simpler time.

Eternal Story features the same kind of updated graphics and cinematic
sequences featured in the earlier Ys Eternal remakes for Japanese PCs, but
it also includes PS2-specific game elements. The two games can be played
separately with their original scenarios, or as a single remixed story with
new items, characters, and other features -- this is called "Eternal Story"
mode. The PS2 version may also include new voice actors for existing
characters, although it's not clear what roles may be changed. The essence
of the story should remain the same, of course, as young adventurer Adol
Christian sets off on the usual quest to save the world and what-not.

Ys Eternal Story is scheduled for release in the spring in both regular and
limited-edition form -- the latter will presumably include various goodies
for fans of the series. Look forward to further updates between then and
now, and perhaps a full preview once the import lands in our hands.

by the way,
Suikoden, Suikoden 2, and Suikoden 3 are 3 very good reasons to own the
playstation 2, along with the fact that working designs puts out just about
any rpg of quality for the PSX and soon PS2 as well ( and we all know about
the ps2's backwards compatability with ps1/x)

Not related to the turbo, but related to gaming in general, i found the
following link amusing:
http://psx.ign.com/articles/380/380966p1.html
its a review for a playstation game that is just by far one of the single
funniest reviews i have ever read, all the way to the end.

The Neo Geo, which is even older than the PS1, still has games being
produced for it. It was even alive during the PC Engine's lifetime, which is
evident in games such as Fatal Fury 2 and Special, Art of Fighting, and
World Heroes 2. Classic systems aren't going to die easily.

Is there anyway to turn off whatever encryption you are using for this
mailing list? If not, I'm missing out on some potentially good
conversation...

Am I the only one on this list that is getting email from AnimeAlex that is
all encrypted like this?? Is there any way that you could turn off your
encryption when you send to this list. I'm sure that you have something to
share but unfortunately, I can't read it :(
