I've been re-reading the the multiple posts regarding the translation and sale
of japanese only games for the Turbo and I had to reply to some more points
which I didn't get to earlier:

before i start up though, i do want to say again that i fully support all
projects for the turbo and this great community. i ahve shown my support by
owning a kisado and implode among other things.

of course you do! jump onto the saturn list and ask how many people there
have modded dreamcasts and saturns. we've modded them so that we could play
imports. in many cases, once you defeat the territorial lockout, you've also
defeated the mechanism or system which doesn't allow for pirated software to
be played.

it could be argued (and i'm sure when someday the xbox is emulated, it
will be) that making money off of an emulator is harmful. i'll give you one
specific example from this list. someone (and i can't remember who it was and
if it was a private email to me or a general post to the list) recently said
that because of magic engine, there was no real need to buy a duo anymore.
that is a lost sale right there. that may be money that a legitimate dealer
like TZD or TELEGAMES will never see because $15 went to an emulator.
and even if it's given away from free. imagine nintendo announcing secret
of mana 3 for the GBA. how long do you think the two english versions of the
rom already on the net for a while now will survive?

a company that is aggresively protecting itself will attack you if you
are doing something they don't like...not just when yo uare doing something
illegal. case in point: bleem was doing something legal and yet they still
suffered terribly. and a bleem disc cost $8 to play ONE PSX game. imagine a
magic engine type emulator for the ps2 or xbox which could play most of the
titles for $15. don't be fooled by the extremely lax attitudes of sega or
nec. they do not reflect the industry.

business.

it is a good argument because emulation was a virtual death sentence to
the NeoGeo. yes, there were many problems with the Neo aside from emulation
but emulators virtually raped what little money SNK was making on the
hardware. Playmore (really just a re-organized SNK) is now VERY careful wtih
releases. NeoGeo releases are extremely limited probably because they have
taken emulation into account. they make just enough for the hard core fans
who will actualyl buy the game.

 > It's just not a good idea to earn the ire of a >large company with lots and
lots

i don't think that companies like RED are big companies with lots and lots
of money. we are not talking about disneys and microsofts and nintendo here.
we're talking about Laser Soft, Human, and Telnet. translating their games
into english and likely showing nothing for profit from a production of 500
games (for example) will not even get the attention of these companies. and i
still maintain that everyone who has voiced opposition to translating great
japanese RPGs for use on the US Duo would buy them anyway. i just refuse to
beleive that there is a turbo gamer here who would stick his/her nose up at a
translated & packaged Ys IV, Manjimaru, Emerald Dragon, or whatever.
