I just came across a copy of Alzadick Summer Carnival and I was curious
as to what the current price is around for a complete used copy. Alex

I'd say about $20-$30 max. I bought mine a couple of years ago ('99 I
think) and I believe it was $10-$15 (used/complete). I was in Japan at
the time however. The game was Y2980 (~$24 now) when it was new, but I
personally wouldn't pay more than that.

I was living in Korea when I picked mine up for $15 used/complete.
Personally, given the nature of the game (i.e. time-trialomania)...unless
you're a completist, I wouldn't bother spending more than $20 for the game
honestly. Better if you can get it cheaper than that. The "game" itself
seems like a pumped up Famicom effort...but probably would have made a
worthwhile game if they had chosen to go that route. As it stands, it's just
a curiousity.

I'm one of the 250 that bought this game as soon as it was made available
at TZD.
I bought it to add it to my proud collection. Quite a conversation piece
as well. "What? Dead system/New game???"
However, I feel that the price may have been too steep. I'm not sure what
it cost to make/produce the discs, but $9.99 would probably have been a
better selling price (even $14.99).
I do have other comments... I definitely WOULD like to see other games
come out, but I think the Implode et.al. collection was too premature for
release. A lot of buzzing in the background was quite annoying
(Humpball). I felt there were a few simple (?) things that could have been
done to make the games more playable.
Music throughout playing Humpball would have been nice. I actually like
this better than Implode.
More graphics for the Implode blocks, when they fall, when they're scored,
etc. Not many sound effects either. Just glancing at some of the similar
games for PCs on that genre, I felt they could have been "juiced up"
more. If retail release is in the future for any other games, they would
definitely need more polishing.
I hope I didn't make you angry with those comments, I'm just trying to be
honest. I'm still glad I purchased the game and am actually anxious to see
"what's next". I know it was a HUGE undertaking just to do Implode.
Thank you! =)

As someone who has been involved in the hobyist development scene at least to
a limited degree for the past few years, I gotta tell you that if you have
sold 250 copies, you have probably broken every record I have ever heard of
for something like this. Most homebrew games on what are considered niche
systems sell well under 100 copies. From what I understand, when Good Deal
Games released the Sega CD titles, their sales were relatively low, so much
so that they barely broke even from what I have heard.
Although I like to support projects like this, when it comes down to it I
would much rather buy a professionally developed game that was just never
released (like the stuff Good Deal Games or Older Games sells for Sega CD and
CD-i). Homebrew stuff on 10 year old hardware just doesn't do anything for
me. Having said that, I love the Turbo and still play it regularly. I guess
I'm just not interested in relatively simple games for a system that has some
amazing stuff in the commercially released library that I still haven't had a
chance to buy and play yet.

As a person who hasn't bought Implode yet, I guess I'll chime in here.
There are a few reasons I haven't bought Implode and almost all involve
circumstances unrelated to Implode... mainly no money.
However, once I get financially back on my feet, I'll buy it. I don't
know how many others are in a similar situation as I am, but I'm sure a
lot know what it's like to be strapped for cash.
Is Implode too expensive? I don't think so. I expected it to cost about
that amount. The reason I haven't bought it when it came out or when I
had extra cash was because I'm not big on puzzle games. There haven't
been too many puzzle games on PCE compared to other common genres, but I'm
simply not into puzzle games in general. A Puzzle Bobble clone would be
cool though. :)
To me, selling 200+ copies of a game for a 15 year old system is a great
accomplishment. I don't know how much money it took to complete this
project, but I hope people will still try to make new games for the
system. I've been reading about new Atari 2600 games being made and sold
to this day and I wonder how many sales they generate. I would say the
2600 has a larger following than PCE/TG16, but still, the system is almost
30 years old.
Personally, if I was able to make a game on PCE, I'd try to make a Contra,
Metroid, Final Fight, or Castlevania clone. Those are the kinds games
I've always wanted for the system and incidentally, those are the kinds of
games I like to play even to this day. Hell, take what's popular on GBA
right now and make a PCE version of it. :)
