I've been a member of this list off-and-on since 1994. I still play
Bomberman 94 quite a lot. I used to have over 350 PCE and TG games, but I
sold them off over the years. I wish I had them all now! :S

Speaking of which, are there still any list members in Japan? Did we ever
figure out if it's possible to buy things through Yahoo! Auctions Japan? I
found a few items there that I want really bad but I don't speak Japanese
and I have no idea if the seller could get the items to me! The shipping is
murderous, but worth it for the significant cost savings. I know Joan spent
some time there, as did Charles Smith, but I don't know what's going on
these days. Someone kindly clue me in.

Thanks.

Hi Robert,

I'm still in Japan for another month or so (making my total stay here
about 1 year, 9 months.)

Rules on Yahoo! Auctions Japan are very complicated these days, and I've
heard conflicting reports saying you need an account with their online
net bank to buy stuff. (Some sellers will list stuff and then sell it
to you without going through Yahoo directly. You definitely need a net
bank account to be able to sell stuff.) Yahoo Japan has really raised
their rates since eBay Japan flopped and closed up shop, so I haven't
been motivated to find out myself. Incidentally, it's very very rare
to find a Japanese seller willing to ship outside of the country in any
medium -- online auction, newspaper advertisement or used goods store.

Bank transfers are so popular here that you can do them from any ATM.
Just put in your ATM card, or even cash, enter the account number to
which you want to transfer the cash, the bank name and branch location,
and the name you want to appear on the transfer (e.g., "From Joan Touzet),
and you're done. Low fees make this the reason why credit cards still
aren't universally accepted here (that, and the convenience-store bill
payment system.)

Unfortunately, I can't take requests to bid on Y! auctions for things
for you, have them shipped to me here, and then forward them along to
you, sorry. Best of luck, Robert, and be sure to let the listers know
how the deal goes!

Cheers,
Joan
