According to the latest issue of Macworld (November, 1984) Apple is
leasing two additional buildings that will, among other things, handle
the "manufacture of an as-yet unannounced product." Clue One.

This weeks's edition of Computer & Software News, a retailer's publication,
claims that, in January, Apple is planning to introduce a Mac with more
inside space for an internal hard disk *like the Lisa 2/10* and possibly
a second internal drive or something along those lines. Clue two.

What are these clues leading to? It is only a rumor - but some believe that
Apple is trying to expand the stretch of the Mac product line and
drop the Lisa series, for which little new software is being written.
The new machine will (would?) standardize the Apple-32 product line.
One of the problems with the Lisa is that the pixel-size is different, which
distorts Mac graphics under MacWorks. Yes, the Lisa is a very powerful
machine, but it would have the best of both worlds as a super-fat Mac.

If this is indeed true, how do present Lisa owners feel about this?
They certainly put down the chips for their machine, and will Apple
leave them in the lurch by dropping the machine from its product line?

Another thing: When Apple finally introduces its 800K double-sided
drives,
         (1) Will the 800K drives accept 400K disks?
         (2) Will the 400K drives at least accept 1 side of an 800K disk?
         (3) Will the Finder treat the front and back as a single entity
             or as two separate disks?

To wrap it up, a few-month-old issue of Byte (Macworld would never print
something like this until much later in the game) said that Apple is
working on a color Mac for spring, 1986. Problems to overcome are
(a)cost (b)high temperature of color tube and (c)fixing these problems
without sacrificing resolution.

*** In the never-ending search for more Apple-Ications...
