By now I hope you have discovered how to format a disk you should read
the book that came with the 1541 drive. Also try running the programs on
the demo disk, the C-64 wedge will make some of the more cumbersom
commands like formatting a disk much easyer.
As far as additional publications the C-64 Programmers Reference
Guide is good for serious programing and better understanding of
the C-64. A good magizine is "RUN". I subscribe to it for my 10 yr
old son and I find it to be informative to both of us. It covers
reviews of available software from games to utilities and also prints
listings of programs that you can enter yourself. These programs are
games, educational, and utility. There is also a section called magic
tricks that users write in about little tricks and short programing
routines that they have found to be usefull. Good luck.
