Just a few comments to follow up on Kit Kimes' message.

Atari made a bad pricing mistake with the 600XL. Since the 600XL
list is about $100 less than the 800XL and the 64K expansion module
costs about $100, it doesn't take too much reasoning to buy an 800XL
in the first place and blow off the expansion unit. One can only
assume that Atari marketing types had their brains addled by too
many episodes of the "Dukes of Hazard" or "Riptide." :-)

The amount of technology packed into the $250-$300 800XL is still
pretty amazing. The AtariWriter and Logo cartridges look like
winners to me. AtariWriter, by the way, has just moved into the
Billboard Top Ten Software chart.

It's truly unfortunate if the program exchange is dropped. Perhaps
Atari feels that the "regular" software houses are now producing
enough product to keep the XL line alive.

Would anyone care to speculate on future Atari machines? I fully
expect a Smalltalk (or some such) expander which uses an XL as the
graphics engine.
