Worth the $26 folks. One disappointment is the inability of the RENUMBER
command to handle GOTO and GOSUB statements. But the 113 other commands
are truly useful. You can really diddle up a program with this. The price
suggests that Commodore would like to see its entire C-64 customer base
get it on line (perhaps for future software releases using some of Simons'
commands?). Could become very popular (remember TI Extended Basic) at that
price.

I agree whole heartedly with the usefulness an performance of
Simon's Basic. One word of caution, however, the COPY command
(prints hi-res pictures) does not seem to work with the Commodore
1526 printer. I have called Commodore hot line, and they seemed
to indicate that it should work but they were not absolutely
sure. At any rate they said they would try it on their system
and call me back. I will. hopefully hear from them today and
get some information. By the way, the LOGO printpict utility
(actually a basic program that prints hi-res pictures also
does not work with the 1526. Don't get me wrong, however, I LIKE
the 1526 VERY MUCH. Great print quality for the price. bi-directionality(?)
is nice to, plus it has a lot of other features.
If anyonw would like more info I can relate my experience with it so
far (I've had it for just less than a week).
It seems to make custom charaters different than the 1525 which
is what all the software ala Simon's Basic, Logo etc was written
for. If anybody has any more info please post to the net or send mail.
I think the net might be better however because anyone interested
in a nice reasonably priced printer should investigate the 1526.

Commodore has dropped the 1526 because of gross software
incompatability problems like you mentioned. Alot of
business oriented software has problems too (eg: word
processors, data bases, etc.)
