Continuing the discussion of "THE DARK SIDE OF ARCADE GAMES", I was pleased to
see the article on the pinball game "Space Invaders". I would like to share
some additional information on the older (electro-mechanical) pinball games.
I purchased my first pinball game a little over a year ago. Its a 1975 WILLIAMS
"TOLEDO" 2 player machine. I was surprised to find the many game adjustments
both to the playfield itself and the scoring/special options.
The playfield has the normal outposts adjustments plus a post adjustment
raising the difficulty in getting certain targets (allow double bonus or free
ball lane).

Scoring variations allow for :
BONUS EJECT HOLE 2 or 3 advanses.
FREE BALL LANE ENABLED with 5 to 8 targets.
SPECIAL LANE pays free ball or game.
REPLAY SCORES pay free ball or game.
MATCH NUMBER disabled/enabled pays game.

Housekeeping variations allow for :
Number of games/coin or coins/game.
Maximum number of game credits allowed.
Replay score settings.

The "DARK SIDE OF ARCADE GAMES" is nothing new and will continue to allow for
gamers to test their skill in not only in the reactive play of these games but
also in the evaluation of the type of play and setup of these machines.
I have found the purchase and subsequent time spent on reconditioning this
machine to be a great hobby.I would like to know of suggested reading material
on the subject of PINBALL. I have checked the local library and struck out.
Any suggestions on books on the history, collection, care and feeding or
whatever in regards to the silver ball would be appreciated.

(Nothing against video's {am addicted to several} but feel nothing can replace
the SILVER BALL.)

Just reviewed the message regarding the changing of code in these machines and
though I haven't gotten to that level yet, I would also be interested in the
responses as my next machine may well be one of the same vintage as Space
Invaders.
