Is it right that "Command" and "Ops" swapped uniform colours between TOS
and NG?? Cannot say I particularly noticed!

And they mention that "that kiss" occured in the same year as Martin
Luther King Jr was murdered, but no mention of Bobby Kennedy!

I never could understand why swap the colors. I suppose it marks the
difference between "Trekkies" and "Trekkers" yet today!

You didn't notice Kirk wore gold and Picard wore red? Watching in black
& white?

It is even mentioned in the DS9 episode "Trials and Tribble-ations."

There is some dispute about NBC not wanting the woman in command.

According to Herb Solow's book/video "Inside Star Trek: The Real Story"
it is a myth.

Would you have objected if they had mentioned Kennedy and not MLK?
Most people either know they occurred in the same year OR not know
anything about either. And since MLK has a national holiday more people
know about him than Kennedy.

I think there is truth to it. Much of the material written for Spock,
especially in the early episodes, make more sense if a woman is in the role.

Case in point:

Hmm, who do I believe? Someone who worked for Desilu at the time of
Star Trek, who interviewed many of the people who worked on the series
or at Desilu?

Or do I believe someone who thinks Kirk and Spock are gay lovers?

Decisions, decisions.

Maybe it was because of the uniform color(s) in the movies?

Sorry!! Australia *does not* have a national holiday to remember MLK Jr!
Oh, hang on, you mean *U.S. of A.* has a holiday. Why didn't you say
so?!?! ;-P

I don't know if I would have picked up on them mentioning RFK but not
MLK Jr, if that was what they had done. I probably only know the
relationship because in some mini-series about the Kennedies, RFK was
supposed to have a Election Rally on the night of MLK Jr's assignation,
but he just told the assembled crowd to go home!! Apparently!!

Funny you mention this, Wiseguy! I was just about to reply to TPM that
the link seems to support TPM's K-S stuff rather than suggesting the
early scripts were written with a female 2IC in mind!

I didn't know the origin of the line "To boldly go where no one has gone
before."

But I wish folks would stop claiming it's grammatically incorrect.

I don't care what your schoolteachers told you, split infinitives aren't
automatically incorrect.

An example: "We expect the number of smartphones *to more than double*
in the next decade."

Try saying that as concisely without the split infinitive.

Modern grammarians say it's a question of judgment. You have to balance
the force of the statement against how well it scans.

The Star Trek tag line "to boldly go...." scans so well that there's no
comparably good way to avoid the split infinitive.

Indeed. Roddenberry, who created the characters and the series, or
that other guy?

True, Roddenberry has a reputation for be a creator of fictions, and
nobody else ever stretched the truth even the teeniest bit ever... but
still.

Roddenberry was not mentioned by me and he was not at least in the video
version of Herb Solow's book. Who was there, in addition to Solow, were
people who did more work on the series than apparently Roddenberry, and
who, unlike you, were there at the time of the inception and production
of the series: Matt Jefferies, Grant Tinker, Alexander Courage, Fred
Frieberger and many others.

So again, why should I believe you and not those that actually were
there and worked on the series? Not just one person but many. Are they
all lying because they don't say what you think? I say no.

Why don't you read the book or watch the video?

"Inside Star Trek: The Real Story" by Herb Solow and Robert H. Justman
