I've tried so many times and for some many months to get Wheezy on a Pismo,
this guy puts me to shame. Let me go now learn from him.

I did install Ubuntu 10.whichever on my Pismo with little trouble. And putting Debian 5.0 on a Wallstreet wasn't that complicated.

And I installed some version of Linux on my 7500 with out any trouble but never could do much with it.

One trouble I have run into is that after a time the online repositories either disappear or move and you can no longer update or install software from them. So if you have an older machine that can't run the latest version you are sol.

Yes, you have to hunt down the distro, some of which stick around for a
while. Others quickly vanish.

On the Pismo I just followed the directions and used a Net Install. I may have had to tweak the Xorg.config file. Most Linux Distros I've installed needed that. I don't know about Firewire, I don't think I ever tried to use it. But WiFi (airport card) worked and the battery reporting both worked without a hitch.

More or less the same story for the Wallstreet. I believe I have a 802.11g card in that machine and had to install a piece of non-open source software that provided the manufacturers firmware for the card.

I found Debian and Ubuntu were the least trouble to install and had the best support for PPC.

Mostly I've found that none of them really have any advantage over OS X.
