Mostly. As far as I can tell, I can understand people,from anywhere in the
US, with greater or lesses difficulty. I have trouble with a lot of British
dialects, but, of course, I only hear them infrequently.

Odd, I could not find Andreas Kohlbach's post to which you responded.
I would say it is indeed likely that people in, say, *Paris*, wouild have
trouble understanding the Cajuns in Louisiana when they were speaking
French... but most people in Louisiana are not of Acadian origin, and
as far as I know, the accent of people from Louisiana when speaking
English is not all that strong.
