“Gibiate” is an original near-future sci-fi/action/samurai/ninja anime about a plague that turns humans into monsters, and a samurai and a ninja from 1600 who time slip into that future. That’s a garbage enough premise to start with, but maybe the creators could do something so batshit with it that it could turn out to be fun.

No such luck. The first episode is purely Death by Info Dump. Action? Give me a break. Why animate action when you can animate people standing around doing info dumps? And the plague? Well, it’s not an infectious disease as such because it is spread by one of the humans-turned-monster stinging another non-transformed human. (And that doesn’t apparently work all of the time, according to one of the info dumps.) And as usual for this sort of anime, high powered weapons don’t work on the monsters so you need samurai swords.

In any event, there was no sign of “intelligent life” in the first episode, so I’m not going to bother with more. My final rating is C.
