“Deca-Dence” is a new original anime set in some post-apocalyptic world where alien monsters have wiped out most of Humanity except for a ragtag band of semi-tech folks in a giant moving fortress. The show is what I consider “science fantasy”. It demands too much suspension-of-disbelief to be science fiction but at the same time it isn’t quite a magical fantasy.

The writing is pretty cookie cutter in the first episode. An exploration party finds some important unknown but they are attacked by monsters before they can assess the find. Then the leader of the group obviously goes off to die fighting while his young injured daughter is carried to safety. A time skip occurs and the Injured Daughter is now semi-grown up and a misfit in the restrictive society that exists within the Giant Moving Fortress. Lots of mysteries appear as by clockwork, letting the audience know that Things Are Not As They Seem.

The characters just don’t interest me, I’ve seen the plot too many times, and the pseudo-science fiction just irritates me, so I’m not going to follow this series. I expect that lots of people will love it but this is not what I am looking for in a sci-fi anime. My final rating is C.

I'm going to watch "Deca-Dence" a few more episodes. I like it better
than "Listeners" and "Gleipnir". I haven't watched both of them
completely. So please excuse me, if I missed something. But none of
them can compete with "Muv-Luv".

The real existence is crappy enough at the moment, so I want to see
something else than fraud and lies in the animes. There have to be
some jokes, and if it is also a creative one, then two thumbs up.

"Tsugumomo" was something like that for me. Rough but funny in both
series.

I'm currently watching "Sword Art Online - War in the Underworld part
2". Well, in the past that was sometimes less emotionally driven. But
I'm interested in how they end it. If I'm lucky, it's a creative
twist. When I'm unlucky, it's standard, simple.

The other series I'm following is "Dokyuu Hentai HxEros". Let's see,
what happens.

Besides that I am looking forward to "Heaven's Feel 3", and OVAs from
"Tensei Shitara", "Goblin Slayer", and "Granblue Fantasy".

I am watching the second episode of Deca-Dence right now, and there's a
major twist. This is NOT the anime I (or you, based on your review)
thought it was.

Given that your taste in anime is not the same as mine, you still might
not like it - but it's not fair to judge this one on the first episode
alone. Won't say more, spoilers and stuff.

I agree. This could be one of the top anime of the year or it could
fall apart, but it is not going to be a cookie-cutter anime you've
seen before!
