Is there any application or test that I can run on my video card to
determine if I should just toss the Geforce 2MX in the trash?

You could try a graphics related benchmark application, too.
XBench may be such an application: http://xbench.com/
It should support Panther (10.3.x) as it’s quite old…

OpenGL Extensions Viewer is another application that allows some OpenGL
graphics testing: http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/
But you will need to find an older version that runs on Panther (10.3.x)…

To be honest, I also recommend to run a game or anything that utilises the
graphics card a lot.

Cheers,

Hello All:

I know this is a little late, but old cards can always be kept around
as backup. Nothing lasts forever.

My next point is, does the video card fit your needs? I bought the
best video card available for my gaming PC because I play just
released 3D shooters on it. On my G5, I use a Radeon 9600. It
handles Return to Castle Wolfenstein, email, Youtube and 1080i+720p
video just fine while using the least amount of power of all the
Radeons that I have (9800s, HD3850, etc.). To sum up: power where it
is needed, efficiency where power is _not_ needed.
