Re-watching “Nazo no Kanojo X” the other week reminded me of the other Riichi Ueshiba series that was animated, “Yume Tsukai”. I remembered liking the manga but not liking and dropping the anime. So I decided to hunt down the anime version of Yume Tsukai in order to give it another try and see if I liked it better after 14 years.

The answer is No. Despite being a Madhouse production and having the very weird manga to work from the anime is dull as dust and pretty much just a paint-by-numbers magic powers battle anime. Everything about it is uninspired, including the animation, the voice acting and the choice of material to use from the manga.

I looked back at my records and saw that I dropped the anime after five episodes during its original 2006 broadcast. I’m amazed in retrospect that I lasted that long.
