Is it corrupt or is it because of the .2mg header?

If the disk image is exactly 143360 bytes, then having the .2mg extension will make it look corrupt to an emulator. Just change the .2mg to .dsk

I know about the header, and the file is the correct length - 143424 bytes. It was created by Adrian Vance, if that helps.

Here is a screen from one of the files that I *can* read.

Can you post your image somewhere? Also, do you need to test with more
DOS disk images packed in a .2mg file? They're easy enough to generate
if so.

The disk image is here - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1V2yO1i5Fn5dsH1AJXzq2UQfpvd SQiNaK
Yes, I could do with at least one other DOS 2mg file. If you could link me to a couple that would be great.

Everything is there. It looks like the image was saved in Prodos order.

I believe CiderPress has the ability to change a disk from Prodos order to Dos order.

It looks like the files will also run without modification on a Prodos volume. Do you require for the image to be in Dos format on a .2mg image? What is your computer or emulator of choice?

I'm reading it in Prodos order, that isn't the problem. The first 12 catalog entries are fine.

If you look at the catalog entry for file D4, it points to 1F/0B as the first TS list sector. This sector is not a TS list sector.

I'm not using an emulator (I did try but it hung, but that could be just me not knowing how to boot a 2mg disk). Try running program D4, I don't believe it will work.

I thought you were saying the whole disk was either corrupt or not corrupt.

But, yes. I copied all 20 files to a Prodos disk and I see that the files D4, D5, D6 and DT are all showing empty.

Let me see if my sector editing skills are what they used to be and will try to locate the TS list for those files.

Sector 1F/0F is clearly a TS list sector, but it's marked as a data sector by the TS list at 1D/02 (in file D1). I doubt the disk is recoverable, I think someone has overwritten some sectors accidentally.

Which is why I asked if anyone had an uncorrupted copy.

I saw that too, but thought there might be a possiblility that, that might be a left over TS list from a deleted file.

but after listing the program D1, which owns the TS list at T1D S2, I can see the corruption in the file at the end.

But I did find unused T/S lists at 22 F, 21 F, 20 F and 1F F that don't belong to any files in the catalog.

The T/S lists point to valid data, so I believe they ARE files. Linking them to files D4, D5, D6 and DT may get those files back, and the only corrupted file then is D1.

That's great if you can recover some of the files, but I don't think you'll ever get a complete disk out of it. I see that the disk contains programs to write disk sectors, so I suspect someone accidentally overwrote parts of the DosTeacher disk while meaning to write to a different disk.

<snip>

Ok! This is what I think what is happening.

If you look at the MENU program, no calls are made to D4, D5 or D6. I don't believe they are part of the original disk and were saved later, which may have caused the corruption when saved to disk

DT is a Dos Tutorial that compares Dos Reading and Writing to Random Access and Sequential text files and I was able to recover that file.

Of the three remaining programs at the end of the disk, I don't believe they belong to the disk.

One is a binary to text file convertor for sending binary files over the internet.

Another is a Dos command locator in Dos itself.

And the last one was a repeat program of the FCT program which is Facts, Calls and Trivia.

I believe the disk is complete except for the file D1, which is slightly corrupted.

The lines that are missing from D1, are lines
9000 Error routine
9100 Display VTOC
9900 Read VTOC
10000 Instructions

I gathered that from the program calling those lines.

If no one comes through with a good disk, just send a request here, and I can try to fill in with what I think is missing from the programs. Reading and deciphering the VTOC should be easy enough. The error routine probably shows some disk errors that can happen.

Instructions are rarely ever included, and just think of the pride you will feel figuring every thing out for your self. :)

The author might still have a copy:
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Adrian-Vance
"15 years producing Apple IIe computer programs for the school market for AV Systems, Inc."

An older (1984) title is on the Internet Archive:

Cheers,
Nick.

The disk doesn't boot on Virtual II. I managed to get another 2mg disk to boot, so I don't think it's me anymore.
