Hello,

I have StyleWriter II I want to put into service for a project with my Mac IIci.

I installed the driver and the computer can address the printer. However I get only blank pages when I try to print a document.

I looked thru several posts on possible fixes, though i have a question: is there any way to determine if the problem is in the printer itself or the cartridge?

Additional information, I have new canon cartridges that I bought ~2 years ago.

Inkjet cartridges tend to dry out over time, blocking the jets in the head. Fortunately the Canon mechanism replaces the head as part of the cartridge, so your replacements are likely to work, as long as they'll fit the printer.

I have several cartridges that are still sealed though I don’t know their shelf life.

IIRC, they come with tape over the heads which should prevent air from getting in and dehydrating them. Feel free to try one; the old head is most likely the cause of getting only blank pages.

Unfortunately that cartridge was fresh from a sealed package.

Wondering about the flex cable and interface to the cartridge on the printer side.

clean the electrical contacts on the printer, the ones that mate to the
cartridge contacts, with iso alcohol and a cotton swab. The flex cable is
probably okay, and I would be more worried about bad/leaking capacitors
than any other electrical problem. Do the cartridges still feel fairly
heavy? Can you weigh them and maybe find out what they should weigh when
full of liquid?
Those cartridges were pretty easy to refill back in the day, the kit was
cheap... just a drill bit, some ink, and a silicone plug with a seal
sticker to go over top.

I cleaned the contacts on the printer with alcohol and the nozzles on the print, however the test page is still blank.

I found that the bare cartridge weights 1.90oz, I have not been able to find a spec on a new cartridge.

Have you tried a test print from the printer itself, not using a computer?

I ordered a reconditioned cartridge to see if my existing cartridges are dried out or plugged up.

The new cartridge worked and I can now print though I am getting lines of text that are missing as if the cartridge is getting plugged up.
