There's a new version of MAME out, and in addition to the headline Sega Model 1 arcade breakthrough there's plenty of Apple II news.

- The Apple II color palette was changed to a more accurate one from the "Apple II Video Display Theory" Google Doc. This makes images look more correct on the 8-bit Apple II drivers, particularly in double hi-res.
- In monochrome HGR display mode, the bit 7 half-dot shift is now shown.
- Paddle controllers are now supported for all Apple IIs, so you can play Total Replay games with paddle support more accurately.
- You can now select the original Apple II to have the Autostart Monitor with Integer BASIC in ROM, which makes it user-friendlier to boot certain early 13-sector games (no 6 CONTROL P or C600G is necessary).
- The TransWarp accelerator card emulation now supports the $C074 control register, allowing Total Replay 3.0 to speed up and slow down when it wants. Additionally, the TransWarp is now supported on the II and II Plus, not just the IIe.
- A crash was fixed when emulating a II or II Plus without a language card; this affected The Best of MUSE.
- Paperboy GS now plays music properly in the IIgs driver.
- Chessmaster 2100 for the IIgs no longer freezes.

For those who don't know, this is from Rebecca G. Bettencourt:

Speaking of the IIgs, where did you source the color palette for Apple II emulation mode graphics? In GSport I added RGB values which Koichi Nishida measured on a ROM 3 IIgs.

Cheers,
Nick.

The IIgs palette is just the RGB values out of one of the Apple manuals (either the Hardware Reference or one of the Toolbox References) with slight adjustments so demos that do border effects (where an Apple II color has to match with an SHR color) look right. Thanks for the tip on the Nishida colors though, I'll take a look!
