VidHD - 80 column [message #389519] |

Greetings,
I am about to start messing around with my VidHD card tonight. I read forum posts here, and the manual. Probably obvious, but I still am not 100% sure how the 80 column mode will work.
Specifically, on a IIE, what will happen with programs that make the normal call to slot#3 for 80 column? Both with the VidHD in slot 3, or other. Will they function normally? The manual seems to indicate such programs may need to be modified?
Thanks for any help.

Do you know of any programs in particular? I use my VidHD exclusively and haven't found any software that doesn't work with it. YMMV.

I haven't yet tried the VidHD in my IIe, but in my IIgs I did notice
that some programs didn't like the VidHD ROM (instead of the standard 80
column ROM). As long as I kept it disabled everything worked without
issue.
I would guess that in a IIe with an 80 column memory expansion in slot
0, the VidHD would work just fine in slot 3, with the memory expansion's
slot 3 ROM taking precedence over the VidHD's.

I have a 4MB RAMWorks IIII in slot 0 and VidHD in slot 3 of my IIe Platinum.. So far I haven't had any problems in any mode. I don't run a wide variety of programs, though so it's certainly possible that one or more of the many I don't run would have problems.

Nothing beats a CRT for pure nostalgia.. But it's nice having an option when you are running out of CRTs. And/or can't commit the space!
